Product Description

The Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path continues with the second adventure: "The Skinsaw Murders." A sudden string of brutal killings terrorizes Sandpoint, and the killer's mark bears a distrubing similarity to the strange rune the goblins in the previous adventure had taken as their tribal totem. Investigation leads the heroes to confront a sinister murderer who has claimed a notorious haunted mansion as his lair. Yet this murderer is one of many, a member of a group of killers who call themselves the Skinsaw Men and have adopted an ancient magic involving the seven deadly sins. The PCs must travel to the bustling city of Magnimar to unravel the truth behind the rune, but in so doing may become prime suspects in the killings themselves! This volume of Pathfinder includes a detailed description of the city of Magnimar, several new monsters, and rules for new types of wizardly specialists who focus their studies on sin magic.

Great horror fantasy adventure! 18 Oct 2009

Paizo and Pathfinder have been trying very hard for a long time to create new D&D adventure and stories with a classic feel, and they certainly succeeded with "The Skinsaw Murders". It introduces a whole new way to handle ghostly hauntings in D&D/3.75, builds a haunted house adventure around it, and then cuts loose. It has ghouls, undead killers, mind-ravaging ghosts, and more. Richard Pett packs a /lot/ of chills and thrills into this one, and it's easily worth the time to get.

The backup articles are also very well done, ranging from the first article detailing a deity and her church, one covering one of the setting's major cities, fine fiction by Jason Bulmahn, and the usual Bestiary.

All in all a great buy!
A brilliant adventure 14 May 2011
By Paul O'Connor - Published on Amazon.com
A shocking murder jolts the sleeping town of Sandpoint out of its complacency. But it is the first in a string of events that lead the characters into a confrontation with a major power that will test their mettle as virtually no adventure has before.

I'll be honest, when I first read the adventure I thought it would kill the group. But they rose to the occasion, suffered setbacks, persevered, and eventually were triumphant. The exultation when they were done made me realize that this adventure had gotten under their skin in ways that no other canned adventure has ever done in one of my groups.

The mysteries are almost too hard, the encounters almost too jarring, the mood almost too dark; but it made the adventure all the better. It's not something I'd recommend for first-time adventurers but it will quickly get the full attention of the most jaded players and bring their enthusiasm back to life.
