If you only buy one walk book for North Wales, this is the one you want.
I actually purchased this 1n 1998, and have now done most of the walks at least once.

My very favourite walks from this collection are:
1) Llangollen, Castell Dinas & Horseshoe Falls.
2) Ty Mawr and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
3) Chirk.
4) The Great Orme (views to die for)!

All of the walks have their own particular charm.
This series of books always gives you a reliable parking & starting point, and all walks are circular (or a direct return where a circular is not possible) in nature, so that you end up back at the car at the end.
Walks are split into 3 categories; green, blue & orange, ranging from easy to challenging. Distances typically stem from 2.5 to 7 miles, most being around 5 miles due to the more challenging terrain in the walking region. The bulk of the book contains walks that would pose no challenge to the average occasional walker. There are 3 longer walks that are between 9 & 10 miles respectively.

Criticisms? There is only one, although it is typical of walking publications in general.
Even when I purchased the book in 1998, many of the walks listed stiles & gates that were sometimes no longer there... Also (on occasion) stiles might have been added and/or the right of way (which is mandatory & cannot be denied to walkers) has been slightly "modified" by landowners...
This stems from the walks having been formulated many years ago, with subsequent editions of the book not fully incorporating changes.
They are however 99% correct & will always lead you in the right direction... If you do become slightly puzzled en-route it is always easy to get back on track, and this even adds to the fun of the walk.

When on holiday, we do a good amount of walking, and consequently have a number of these pathfinder books. They are well written, with graded walks that will be suitable for a majority of fitness levels.Routes are very clearly set out and follow the relevant OS maps, and give grid references for waypoints throughout.

(This product was sent to me by the Author / Publisher / Agent for an honest and unbiased review).

I've used a fair few walking guide books in my time and when you have read and used that many you can easily separate the good from the bad. One of the most important factors with a guide book I find is its layout and in that department this guide book is with the best that I have seen.

This A5 sized book (approx) is very nicely presented and contains 95 pages covering a total of 28 walks within the mid-north wales region. I have spent a great deal of time in this beautiful part of the country in both my younger days whilst on holiday and in adulthood years as a walker / hiker and can verify that the selection of walks documented are an excellent and interesting selection.

The essential information of all 28 walks are nicely summarised early on in the book and this enables you to view all the key facts on adjacent pages. This helps you to decide which is the most suitable for your needs at the time and if you wanted to conduct more than 1 walk in one day the book also shows you where the routes are in relation to each other with a clear and well labeled 2 page map. Some of these routes are far away from each other whilst others are close enough to achieve 2-3 walks in one day as long as you set off early enough and are prepared to walk beyond dinner time, which I personally enjoy as its much cooler in the summer months.

Once you have decided which walk you would prefer to take on you then find the specific section page within the book and this can be achieved very quickly as each route can be easily found thanks to the large numbers that appear on the edge of each page.

Really happy with the walks in this book and have tried a few. Well detailed but also great if you are like me too lazy/time poor to find the most beautiful spots to go walking in within this area.
