Product Description

Product Description

From stunning coastal scenery in the north of the county, to the unique inland waterways of the Broads to the east and the remote beauty of the vast fenlands to the west. Norfolk has always been a popular holiday destination but until now has never had much of a reputation as walking country. However, even the most seasoned of walker will be delighted and satisfied by the 28 walks in the this title, which include the historic highlights of Castle Rising and Oxburgh Hall, ancient routes such as Boudicca's and the Peddars Way and stunning seascapes at Overstrand and Wells-next-the Sea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent walking guides, 7 Feb 2009

This review is from: Pathfinder Norfolk: Walks (Pathfinder Guide) (Paperback)
These guides are brilliant. The walks are arranged with the shortest at the beginning of the book and the longest at the end, so if you haven't done much walking you can ease yourself in gently.

Each walk is detailed over about five pages. There is a Ordnance Survey map showing the complete walk, though they are not large and I would therefore advise you to take a 1:25000 map of the area and a compass that you know how to use. There is a general description of the walk with points corresponding to the map and advice on where to park the car or catch a bus.

I would consider the Pathfinder series to be the best available, as the descriptions of the walks compared to my experiences of these walks mean that the authors must have actually done them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good variety of walks but too much on the road., 17 Jun 2009

This review is from: Pathfinder Norfolk: Walks (Pathfinder Guide) (Paperback)
As always with this series, the walks are well described and vary nicely in difficulty. Unfortunately there is a bit of a tendency to include a lot of road walking in this one... perhaps unavoidable given Norfolk's tendency to put all the good paths by the coast, but I've seen better get-arounds (notable the Cornwall book). We enjoyed exploring but after a long weekend, our feet hurt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Norfolk walks, 14 Jun 2010
By
This review is from: Pathfinder Norfolk: Walks (Pathfinder Guide) (Paperback)
The walks in this book are varied and interesting. The information is easy to access, and there is a handy map at the front to show the location of all the walks. The book gives practical information on each walk, eg the distance, time it takes, where to park, where to get refreshments, and which Landranger maps to use. There are snippets of interesting information about the area, and suggestions of what to look out for. The directions are clear and detailed for the most part, but sometimes refer to shops or businesses & could become outdated as towns and villages develop over time. It would be sensible to use a map as well as the book. I enjoyed using this book, and have completed some of the walks in my locality.
