I used to walk alot when I was younger, but had gotten out of the habit recently. We also live in a beautiful county and wanted to see more of it, so I decided to pick up this book based on some of the reviews for others in this series. Overall, I do like the book; it has a wide variety of walks ranging in difficulty, and covers a vast area (so there's plenty of variety). The little tidbits of information that accompany the walk descriptions are also quite fun, the print quality is excellent and the included maps are very useful.
But it also has its flaws, some quite serious. In several instances, the routes chosen are not necesarily the most logical or safe. Granted, circumstances may have changed since the book was written (the version I have was revised in 2008), but some warning might have been helpful when dealing with descents down very steep hills. Some of the descriptions are also misleading and/or confusing; we chose one walk based on the description that it was flat and well-marked, only to discover that although there were quite a few sign-posts, there were no apparent footpaths to follow.
The presence of the maps is this book's saving grace. Without them, it would have received a much worse rating. As long as you are prepared to take some of the instructions with a pinch of salt and use some common sense, this is a useful guide to pop in your rucksack
