This campaign setting really does bring Irrisen to life and lays the foundations for a really interesting campaign in a very different type of society, with the usual wealth of places and characters as hooks to launch adventures. I really like Paizo's preference for sketching things out and leaving GMs the space to fill in the details. Any GM worth their salt really should be inspired.

I would have given it 5 stars if not for one or two minor quibbles. The first is the occasional sense of laziness in terms of encounters. Particular monsters - in this case the wendigo, in others the decapus - seem to be particular favourites of the writers and this can lead to a certain "sameiness" over different regions when variety is surely the reason for investing in different settings? The attempts to provide links encouraging you to buy different products in order to really be able to use settings is also growing wearisome. For example it is really quite ridiculous that to take full advantage of a campaign set in the land of the Winter Witches you need to purchase Paths of Prestige for details of the Winter Witch prestige class (or go to the trouble of creating your own version).

Look Out for the Cold 5 Mar 2013
By dogsoldier - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
The Pathfinder Campaign Setting product "Irrisen: Land of Eternal Winter" goes into a fair amount of detail while describing the northern reaches of the Irrisen realm and the peoples of it. Notable NPCs are briefly sketched out and most significant towns are at least somewhat outlined. The Irrisen realm is, frankly, absurd in that the elites of the entire realm are almost universally, irredeemably evil and selfish, and dominated by a magical, never-ending frost that renders the world an icy wonderland for frost giants, winter wolves, and witches. On the other hand, that's what makes it so fun to adventure in; there are endless opportunities for knock-down brawls, clever subterfuge, explosive spellcasting, and breaking the power of evil and replacing it with good. It includes very good campaign hooks. This book, fairly well-written and decently organized, combined with the player-centered "People of the North," should be seen as indispensibe towards rooting any good campaign in the icy north of Golarion.

Crunch: 10 new monsters (however, 2 of them are basically NPC archetypes, and 3 of them are more-or-less unique creatures) and 3 new environment-related afflictions.
