Product Description

Album Description

Global Sunset is the second Altura release from DJ and global/electronic pioneer Pathaan. Having successfully bridged the gap between world music and electronica, Pathaan has delivered a definitive selection of warm and exotic vibes, successfully blending roots inspired music beside music with beats. Pathaan has always been at the forefront of the dance/world scene. He cut his teeth at the now legendary Asian fusionist club Swaraj that exploded out of London's east end. Prior to that he has provided DJ support for David Bowie on tour.

Global Sunset includes contributions from Massive Attack, Nusrat Fateh, Ali Khan remixed by State of Bengal, Leftfield, Souad Massi, Hybrid, Oi Va Voi and Chris Coco meets Afterlife. The journey through the tracks is seamless, with Pathaan effortlessly guiding you through an eclectic and revelatory selection of grooves. CD1 Sunset chills you out, while CD2 Sunrise elevates and inspires. However, each CD, Sunset and Sunrise, tells its own story in the mix and cannot be classified as up-tempo or downbeat. This being Pathaan, the groove is always challenging and never clichéd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great worldy-beat mix by Pathaan!, 20 July 2004

This review is from: Pathaan's Global Sunset: Mixed By Pathaan (Audio CD)
Having already got Indian Sunset by Pathaan, and rating that very highly, I was looking out for any new work he was to release. Sure enough, out comes Global Sunset, and another sure hit with anyone who has been into this style of worldbeats/global fusion - call it what you want, but mainstream downtempo this isn't!
As mentioned in my review for Indian Sunset, Global Sunset will suit anyone who likes the whole Buddha Bar/Nirvana Lounge CD's that have come out from the likes of Claude Challe and Ravin.

I have quite a few CD's in this genre, and after a bit you get some tracks being repeated on on other albums, however, Pathaan chooses his tracks wisely, and I've only come across a couple of the tracks that he has used on other compilation CD's (such as Massive Attack, Orchestral World Groove, and Leftfield). Personal favourites on the CD's include a fantastic cover version of State of Independence, which is more uptempo and "ethnic" sounding that of Chrissy Hynde and Moodswings version. Also like the breakbeat sound of Orient Expressions, and Natascha Atlas's voice is always a pleasure to hear!
Buy this if you love Indian Sunset, you will not be disappointed!

It is good to at last see his work available and finally see him get the attention and praise he truly Deserves! Peace!
