Product Description

Product Description
Serves as an introduction to the "Journal of Conflict Archaeology" and the field. This title features 13 essays, which deal with battlefield remains in Europe, Africa, North American and Asia.

About the Author
Tony Pollard is one of Britain's leading battlefield archaeologists. He read archaeology and military history at the University of Glasgow and received a doctorate in 1995. He has worked with both the Field Archaeology Unit of University College, London and was until recently a senior project manager at the University of Glasgow. He has carried out pioneering work on battlefields in Zululand and North Africa, and as a forensic archaeologist he has worked with police forces throughout Britain. Tony has stepped down to the role of project manager to concentrate on working on the popular BBC TV series on battlefield archaeology, called Two Men in a Trench. Iain Banks has been a Project Manager for GUARD (Glasgow University Archaeological Research Division) since 1994 and became its Depute Director in 1997. Iain's doctoral thesis was on the rural settlement of Scotland in the first millennia AD and BC. His research interests include the Iron Age in Scotland, early Medieval Scotland and Ireland, Medieval or later rural settlement and the archaeology of nationalism. Iain is responsible for managing geophysical surveys and has carried out a large number of surveys across Scotland, and has undertaken surveys in Cyprus, Libya and South Africa. He is Director of Operations of the GUARD forensic unit, providing specialist geophysics skills. He is currently heavily involved in battlefield archaeology, working with Tony Pollard and Neil Oliver on the BBC TV series Two Men in a Trench.
