‘A page-turner... a terrific read’Susan Salli
"A powerful tale of survival and hardship, very well crafted and with strong characters" -Publishing News

Past Remembering - Book Six of the Hearts of Gold series by Catrin Collier

1941. In Pontypridd, Ronnie Ronconi has returned home from war-torn Italy. The family are certain he will once again take charge of the family in his own forceful way, but Ronnie's escape from Italy has left him a much changed man. He accepts the rights and freedoms of his younger siblings as he never has before, and even finds time to help others, particularly Alma, whose husband has been sent on a most dangerous mission.
After the loss of his beloved wife, Ronnie is certain he will never look at a woman again; he certainly doesn't expect to fall in love - particularly with the wife of a friend... Diana is locked in an unhappy marriage - but can Ronnie and Diana put their own personal happiness ahead of that of an entire family?

The coal dust soon gets in your lungs in this gritty tale of the war-torn lives of the community of Pontypridd where the Home front has its full ration of heartache and despair, thankfully lightened by that famous wartime spirit. 4 stars -- Steve Craggs Northern Echo 1941. More About the Author

CATRIN COLLIER/KATHERINE JOHN/CARO FRENCH/KATHERINE HARDY/K A JOHN -
At present (January 2014) working on Winds of Eden the sequel to Long Road to Baghdad. Look out for my raunchy Caro French Farcreek novels, Lady Luck, Lady Lay, Lady Chance named after the Cullen boys yachts. - Coming very soon.
My most bemused moment. When someone commented, "It will be wonderful for Pontypridd when you die." (Many of my novels are set in the town)
My best "putting in place moment". When someone joined a queue at a signing session in Waterstones and waited ten minutes to say, "I don't want a book, love, but as you're here for two hours, look after my shopping for me." - I did.
My proudest moment, when I discovered my Catrin Collier novel, One Last Summer, based on my Prussian born mother's wartime diaries was named recommended reading for adults by the Holocaust Day Memorial Trust.

Past Remembering is the sixth book in the Hearts of Gold series - although it could be read as a stand alone novel.
It is set in 1941 in wartime Pontypridd, where munitions factories have brought employment and wealth to the town.
While many of the men are away at war, the women of the town are busy. . . employed "doing their bit" in munitions, or in jobs the men occupied before the war, running businesses, raising their families, housing evacuees. . .
Many of the women are experiencing and enjoying a wealth, independence and new found freedom they couldn't have imagined before the war, and are realising they will not want to give this up after the war.
Past remembering is a fantastic portrayal of a very interesting period in history - especially women's history. Like other books in the series it is well researched, with vibrant and believable characters, and totally riveting storylines. A very enjoyable read.

The first five books in the series are:
Hearts of Gold
ONE BLUE MOON (HEARTS OF GOLD (PONTYPRIDD SERIES))
A SILVER LINING (HEARTS OF GOLD)
ALL THAT GLITTERS (HEARTS OF GOLD)
SUCH SWEET SORROW (HEARTS OF GOLD)

The next book in the series is:
BROKEN RAINBOWS (HEARTS OF GOLD)

Its ok, it is readable and quite enjoyable in the way that with reading this far into the series you need to reach the conclusion. I know the area well, My Family had Miners among them as well as shopkeepers and Bakers around Pontypridd, my Mother worked in the munitions factory, so there is a lot of nostalgia for me. however it makes me think that there must have been more than the rather insular world portrayed.

Another book in the series, they have all been good reads. Should have read her Brothers and lover first as they are about on earlier time in South Wales
