"'Scotland's very own Michael Crichton' Aberdeen Express 'Well-wrought, plausible and unnerving' The Times 'McClure's forte is to take an outside medical possibility, decide on the worst possible outcome...and write a book' The Scotsman"

Product Description

When successful neurosurgeon John MacAndrew performs a routine operation to remove a tumour, the patient undergoes a severe personality change post-surgery. Hartman's Tumour is diagnosed, a rare condition which leaves its victims deranged and destined to be confined to mental institutions. There is no option but to have the patient committed. The patient's husband blames MacAndrew for the dreadful outcome and sets about to ruin his career. With an uncertain future ahead of him, MacAndrew retreats to his native Scotland to lick his wounds and it there that he makes further discoveries about the mysterious illness and the chemical that induced it. The damage wrought by the chemical affects the brain cells that normally block out a person's memory of past lives, with the result of the appearance of multiple personality disorder in sufferers. Armed with this knowledge, MacAndrew thinks he may be able to save his patient, until he discovers someone is deliberately using the chemical to regress selected individuals and gain eyewitness accounts of events in the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars A REAL CRACKER!!!!, 1 Dec 2007
This review is from: Past Lives (Paperback)
I have just read this and two other Ken McClure books and can't believe that this guy isn't more famous.

This is a real murder mystery in the old fashioned sense with a 'supernatural' twist - though perhaps even that choice of word can be debated!!! Are the patients suffering from some wierd brain tumour remembering past lives lived or are they suffering from a disease induced schizophrenia and how come they seem to know about things and places that occurred 1000's of years ago?

As the previous poster says, rogue priests chasing around in the hunt for some old christian artefacts leads the hero to discover some shocking goings on with fatal results!!!

This book is not only a fast paced page turner (you won't be able to put it down), but it has some unusual twists coupled with some intelligent information and scientific data that will stimulate as well as interest any reader who likes a bit thought to go with his book.

A tense, fast-paced thriller with lives being ruined along the way. This novel is a brilliant read with interesting characters and a thrilling plot that races you through a world of revenge, lies and a battle for power.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner, 27 Dec 2011
This review is from: PAST LIVES (Kindle Edition)
I read this novel over 24 hours because, despite it being Christmas and the busiest time of year for me, I quite simply could not put it down. The main character is a neuro-surgeon who, while investigating the effects that follow from the removal of a malignant brain tumour in one of his patients, finds himself drawn into highly dangerous territories. This brilliant story line has believable characters, atmospheric settings in Edinburgh and Malta, a mad priest, some love interest and a good helping of paranormal psychology. I am certainly going to down-load more of Ken McClures novels...look out for more reviews.
