Product Description

A Passionate Love Affair with a Total Stranger by Lucy Robinson, author of The Greatest Love Story of All Time, is a hilariously funny and gorgeously romantic story about falling in love when you least expect it.

Charley Lambert has worked hard at creating a perfect life. She has an aspirational flat, a job of international significance and a very good pair of legs, thanks to a rigorous health and fitness regime. Best of all, her boss has asked her out after seven years' hard flirting and a covert fumble in a mop cupboard.

Then she breaks her leg in three places, watches her boss propose to someone else and - horror - is forced to hand over her job to her nasty deputy. Charley, a certified workaholic, fears that she will go mad.

Dangerously bored, she starts helping people who are talentless at internet dating. Then William arrives in her inbox and rocks her world. Helpless, she watches herself fall in love with him and discovers she's not who she thought she was.

But can she turn her back on her old life - all for a total stranger?

Laugh out loud and fall in love with Lucy Robinson's A Passionate Love Affair with a Total Stranger

4.0 out of 5 stars Chicklitastic! 28 Feb 2013
By Angel TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Yes this is unashamedly Chicklit, but I really liked this book - I enjoyed this author's first offering The Greatest Love Story of All Time and thought that this was a more confident and memorable book. Sure the story of career girl Charley Lambert, who is forced to reconsider her busy life when incapacitated, is somewhat predictable, but the characters are somehow endearing and believable at the same time. I was happy to go along for the ride and didn't find that the book dragged at all.

There was a lot of "will they? won't they" and a cast of entertaining friends old and new, from Sam the best friend lodger to Charley's clients Shelley and William in the new business Charley sets up along the way - ghost writing messages for the uninspired seeking love on the internet. I liked the fact that the book was set in Edinburgh and not London - it made a change, and found the book amusing, if not laugh out loud hilarious. All in all it added up to a light and enjoyable read. Lucy Robinson is a breath of fresh air in a crowded market place - recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suz 30 Jan 2013

I loved the cover of this book and thought it would be right up my street. But as i started it, i wasn't so sure...but then changed again and loved it. Its a laugh out loud story f Charley who is a workaholic as well as being obsessive of having a perfect life. Not every thing goes to plan but the reader is certainly given laughs all the way through Charley.s troubles.
The characters are brilliant and most of the family being so eccentric had me wanting to live near them, or worry about my family and their strangeness. Cant wait to get hold of Lucy's first book as this one i didn't want to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Passionate about this! 25 Jan 2013
By Leah Graham TOP 1000 REVIEWER

Last year, I read and enjoyed The Greatest Love Story of All Time by Lucy Robinson. I read it when I was in England last March and it blew me away. I adored it, so when I heard about Lucy's new book A Passionate Love Affair With A Total Stranger (which is possibly a better title that The Greatest Love Story of All Time - whoever comes up with the titles should applaud themselves because they're AWESOME titles) I was practically giddy with excitement. Lucy has a very distinct voice, and is one of the brightest new Chick Lit stars around. When my copy arrived, I was overjoyed, and couldn't wait to read it. And lemme tell you, it is just as good as The Greatest Love Story of All Time. In fact, it's better.

I LOVED A Passionate Love Affair With a Total Stranger. Robinson did EVERYTHING I wanted her to do with the novel, and I just lapped it up like an excited puppy. When I heard about Charley I was a bit worried because she sounded like a really cold fish, but she's actually not. Yes, she has a business front and perhaps doesn't have many real-world interests or participate in any unorganised parties or anything, but I never found her cold or disinterested. You can't not love someone who calls themself a Scottish Amazon. Because that's just ace. That, right there, tells you all you need to know about Charley Lambert. She is ACE. I want her to be my friend.

Most of all, though, I loved William. I loved the whole William thing. The BANTER between Charley and William was something else entirely. It is quite something when a writer can make sparks fly OVER EMAIL. And Lucy Robinson did it. She really SHOULD be a writer for those hopeless at emailing because, man, the amount of marriages there would be. There wouldn't be a single person left in the world.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! It's such a light read, very witty and incredibly funny! I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that things don't quite go the way you might expect them to and the ending is adorable! ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and fun xx 19 Feb 2013

Charley Lambert never has a spare moment - she is constantly on the go with an important job, has a health and fitness regime, and has spent her time creating the perfect life. Then she breaks her leg in three places and that's only the start of bad things...She watches her boss propose to someone else and as she is recovering from her injury, she has to hand over her beloved job to her awful deputy. Desperate for something to do, Charley sets up First Date Aid in order to help internet daters connect with each other and hopefully find love. When one of Charley's clients asks her to start e-mailing William on her behalf, she discovers a lot about herself, and finds herself falling in love...

What can I say? This book was amazing! I started it in the morning and by the afternoon I had completed it. I couldn't put it down, even though it is easy paced I raced through the book because I was so engaged and involved with what was happening. The story had me laughing throughout, at one point I was crying with laughter!

The characters are fantastically written. Charley is instantly likeable, I warmed to her straight away and loved reading about everything she got up to! Charley is the type of person that I would love to have as a best friend - her personality shone out through the pages and I felt as though I was there watching the scenes happen in front of me. Another character I particularly liked was Sam, Charley's flatmate. The friendship between them was brilliant and I always enjoyed the scenes where they both featured!

The correspondence between Charley and William was BEAUTIFUL! I got butterflies in my stomach just from reading it, and I genuinely felt Charley's excitement every time a new email came through.
