It is difficult to call a book that takes you through the passion as great, or terrific. And "rich" is overused to descibe modern spirituality, and new age spirituality. Poignant is the word that decribes Von Speyr's detailed emotional trip of Christ's passion. Somehow Von Speyr is able to detail the movement of Christ's view of His passion. And she does it in a way that proves that each step was Christ's choice to fulfill his Father's plan. Very powerful and in some ways awful and unbearable. I have since read another book by Von Speyr, this one on death, and I think that both are superb books. Rather than call her a mystic though I think maybe she is better decribed as a realistic mystic. For Catholics a beautiful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing better for a meditation during the Holy Week! 24 April 2009
By Luis F. Escalante - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book in the best meditation regarding the Passion. Much better and shorter than the writings of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824). Besides, is an excellent edition with a fine translation from the original German text from this Swiss visionary, a precious gem from the mystics of the XX century. Greetings for Ignatius Press for the edition!

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique look at the Passion 27 Mar 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I've read a lot about the the Passion of Christ over the past thirty years. This book is unique and absolutely stunning in its insights. If you loved Mel Gibson's The Passion, this will take you deeper in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, profound 24 May 2013
By Stephanie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was recommended to me by a good friend, someone more experienced in the spiritual life than I.

I got it in time for Lent this year and used it in my prayer time during Lent. It is a very beautiful and profound work. Every time I picked it up, I only read a small amount because there was so much to meditate and reflect on.

I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to have a closer look into the Heart of the Passion. My friend recommended it because I was going through some suffering myself at the time, and it was just the spiritual food and strength that I needed to get through that time.
