1.0 out of 5 stars Useless and Misleading New-Age Claptrap, 30 Dec 2010

The book claims to help readers "discovering their passions" but alas does no such thing. Instead it asks readers to list up to fifteen passions (without giving ideas on how to discover them in the first place) and then compare them against each other until you have identified your top five passions. Then you live your life according to them (there, no need to buy the book now) but no further assistance is given.

To stretch this thin message over more than 280 pages the authors intersperse the book with the story of how one of the authors (Janet) went on about living her passion with dreadful, vomit-inducing narrative. Lest not forget the subtle patronization throughout the book ("I nearly dropped my phone into my salad" - who gives a monkeys on what you eat, you chubby cow!). Avoid.

It's a good book, but I think this process would work better with a coach or facilitator to help dig deeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Passion Test: Score an A+, 5 Feb 2009

This review is from: The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Life Purpose (Paperback)
People like to knock books like these because their ideas are perhaps too simple. My thinking, however, is just the opposite- all the good ideas that really work ARE simple.

To me, the biggest value of this book is that it can really help one get focused on their passions and the things they really want out of life- and few things are more important than that.

Sure you can reduce the book down to its simplest form of "make a list of your passions". But then again, weight loss can be reduced down to "eat less and exercise more" as well. Yes, that's a simple and effective solution, but I doubt most people will be successful with just that simple piece of advice alone. And THAT'S the real value of the book- it provides guidance on how to have a fulfilling life using a very simple idea.

Get this book if you feel like something's not quite right in your life and you need a change of direction- the book will help. Remember, you can't get what you want until you know WHAT you want. The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny (Your Coach in a Box) [AUDIOBOOK] [UNABRIDGED]

This is a 5 CD audio book. 2 CD's worth are filled with the authors narrating stories about themselves and their travels. Another 2 CD's worth contain interviews with people who are "living" their passions and making millions of dollars. The 1 CD worth of "content" consists of a series of directions for making assorted lists and a cut from magazines and paste board of desires (you know, like the one you made in the sixth grade ). There is nothing here that hasn't been said before, many times. I don't know what I was thinking! If you want this book, send me an e-mail and I'll give you my copy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great material, but save your money, 4 Oct 2007

I really enjoyed the first half of the book because it is direct and clear. List 10 passions, find out your top 5 passions and look at them on a daily basis. I had an epiphany when I found out my number 1 passion!

Then, for the rest of the book, there is nothing new and it seems like a rehash from other self-improvement books. I was less excited and have stopped reading the book.

This book is recommended for those who don't know their passions in life or need to re-organise their passions to achieve their maximum potential!
