Product Description

RE-RELEASED WITH NEW COVER ACCLAIMED AS THE DEFINITIVE HISTORY OF THE BAND NEW INTEREST WITH SHEA STADIUM LIVE CD AND OFFICIAL CLASH BOOK Pat Gilbert’s definitive biography of the Clash – universally acclaimed as a great book – has already sold over 20,000 copies in paperback. Now, for the 30th anniversary of the band’s classic London Calling album, it is reissued with a stunning new cover. For the book Pat Gilbert – a former Mojo editor with the highest credentials – talked to everyone, in over 70 interviews with the key participants – roadies, producers, friends and fans - and above all the band members themselves, including Joe Strummer before his death, to be able to give the first real insight into what went on behind the scenes during the Clash’s ten-year career. With the surge in interest generated by the Shea Stadium live CD and the official Clash book, Passion Is A Fashion will attract a new sale as the only truly indispensable Clash book. Pat Gilbert was editor of Mojo magazine until 2003, and is now a contributing editor. He lives in Hampshire.

Format:Hardcover
This is a cracking read for anyone who loved the Clash, documenting each band member's life up to the day that they met and formed the most important band of their, if not every, generation. All the key players tell their side of the story and what a story it was! Pat Gilbert shows his expertise as a music jounalist as with great compassion as he tells it how it was, warts and all, from their modest beginnings through to their eventual demise and beyond. The book ends with an emotional epilogue bidding farewell to Joe Strummer; the man who changed so many of our lives. A must for anyone who this band moved and politicised with their words and music.

Format:Hardcover
After following the Clash for the best part of a quarter of a century i always found that the many books written about them fell short of telling the full story,i knew all the basics and most of the myths but this was never enough ,now with the release of this excellent book can the casual reader or hard core fan find out not only how the band met, formed, concieved their music, toured, conquered the states and ultimately imploded, but more importantly why it all happened, this book is the only one of its kind to go behind all the myth's and find out(as told by all who were there) just how four people can be in the right place at just the right time, and as such is a fascinating insight into not only the Clash but Rock'n' Roll itself.

WHO WERE THE CLASH ? 26 Oct 2005
Format:Hardcover
In the first few pages you will find out more about who Joe (or John or Johnny or Woody) was and the rest of the group. This book trawls through their early lives, giving an insight into what made each character tick, and what made them the people they were. Extremely insightfull and well written. Well worth every penny and more!

I really enjoyed this book. It's a labour of love, but manages to avoid the obsequiousness that many rock histories fall into. Read more

The "legendary" Pat Gilbert
The "legendary" Pat Gilbert's book is the greatest book about the greatest band. Written with the sort of passion that only the "legendary" Pat Gilbert can write. Go and get it.

I'm almost thorough it and against it I am going to try to compare Salewicz epic on Joe Strummer, or perhaps Chris Needs book or even Marcus Gray opus about The Clash. Read more
