I was a bit hard on System 7 with their recent album 'Up,' feeling as a now long-term fan almost that the techno vibe was running thin, allowing the boomy beats to dominate a little too much at times. Just my opionion obviously, but here in this (sadly MP3 only?) ep, there's the beginnings of a rebirth, a change in direction, which should be complete by the end of 2013 with the Rovo & System 7 album, where techno meets manic 'real' percussion, an awesome electric violin vies with Steve's soaring guitar (HORAY!!!!!) and another keyboard player aids and abets Miquettes distinctive post Gong synthy bits. The fusion works a treat and can be heard in its beginning from track 3 of this ep, 'Eclipse.' This track has a (mostly gentler) mix in the recent Hinotori ep, which I'd strongly recommend anyone interested to buy (very cheap to download in non-lossy FLAC as well as lossy MP3, although I'm old enough to prefer the physical CD format which is also available for a short while.

At the very least, explore the Eclipse track in its various mixes and the Rovo tracks too.

Onward and Upward :)
