right after the experimental period of "zooropa" (u2 on the moon, according to the edge) that followed the succesfull "achtung baby", U2 owed brian eno a favor. like david byrne with "my life on the valley of ghost", they left the safety of pop to adventure on the eno-dimension, outer space as you are suggested from the painting on the cover. the results couldn t be better, a soundtrack for art films, with the collaborations of luciano pavarotti (out of place on miss sarajevo) and howie B (elvis ate america), that apart from 4 of the films, only exist for the mere reason of musical landscaping. great job by the edge on hipnotic guitar . highly enjoyable, a must for u2 or brian eno fans.

its so important to constantly remember that this is NOT U2. its more Brian Eno's influence that anyone else. Bono once said that is an after midnight kind of record, and it is. its relaxing to listen to, but might not be to everyones taste. but I really love it, even if Bono, Adam, Edge and Larry arent so sure.

I am a massive U2 fan and heard Bono sing a track called your blue rooom and loved it . Sent for the passengers album because i knew this particular song was on it. I was really disappointed with the rest of the album apart from my blue room and miss saraeyvo (excuse the spelling mistake) but u2 fans will know what i mean. The majority of the album seemed to be a massive jam session with the musicans kind of indulging themselves but it was a collaboration and not the usual U2 format that i know and love. I still love u2 and if you are looking for a great listen buy No line on the horizon.

Having been intrigued by Brian Eno since the age of 11 when I saw him on Top of the Pops in Roxy Music and an early U@ adopter this album was an irresistible purchase. Brilliant at points. A little overindulgent at times.

In case you don't want to plough through a 1000 word review by Amazon's #1 reviewer (below), I'll keep this brief:
This is a fine collection of ambient, largely instrumental tracks by that fine collective known as "U2". VERY different to their commercial song-based albums, this is a Brian Enoesque soundtrack to a film never made. Having said that, some of the tracks HAVE since featured in films (most notably for me, "Always Forever Now" features in the soundtrack to the Michael Mann film "Heat").
Stand-out track must be "Miss Sarajevo", featuring Luciano Pavarotti - truly beautiful. This is a quality "chill out" album, ideal for those moods where you just sit and relax.

This a Brian Eno album with a large contribition from the members of U2. Understood like that then you won't be disappointed in the way other listeners have been with this album. Miss Sarajevo is a marvellous track and Pavarotti's singing is quite moving. There are a few lemons on the album but by and large those interested in Eno and U2 will find something here to enjoy. The only truly baffling thing about this CD is how the cover art was selected. It is truly terrible. It appears to be either guache or chalks on black paper. How musicians with the resources of Eno and U2 decided to select this amateur artwork for their front cover is hard for me to understand. Why do I focus on the artwork? Because it is the gateway to a record. Like it or not but the graphics subliminally but profoundly affect your expectations of the album. This record is in no way correctly represented by a clumsy sketch of a space station. It needed something slicker and more abstract than this. If you do buy the record, do try to avoid seeing the front cover before you sit down to listen. Personally I turn the cover inside out: there is a better image on one of the inside pages.

Brilliant hidden secret. very moody and spacious U2 project album. SPECIAL. and seriously worth buying fo any U2 fan. This is one heck of a great secret find....if you like U2. Essential ownership and lsitening required by all die hard U2 fans and admirers. Goes to show what they can do in a less comemrical vein on the quiet in a contemplative midn set. There are song on here I dearly like .... LOVELY atmospheric songs and some fabulous lyrics. I think U2 should ahve released it as a main album. It is certainly good enough.I t certainly deserves far more fame than being an obscure soundtrack...with less awareness of it than a Pink Floyd Movie album. It deserves far ebtter. Genuinely great album. I left a copy in a wine bar in Clapham where the management also liked it and played it alot when it first came out. It went Missing so I went straight out and bought another copy. I also love the gold and yellow cd label. No mistaking which cd it is. Class. and that`s from someone who prefers classical music to pop and rock. This is a good albuma nd if not cult already or mythological..will be!! Hang on to your originals!
