Supernatural thriller starring Anne Hathaway as Claire Summers, a young psychotherapist assigned to work with a group of survivors of an air crash. Mystery and confusion shroud the recollections of the five passengers, which seem to contradict the official version of the accident given by the airline. Claire is particularly intrigued by one of the passengers, the secretive Eric (Patrick Wilson). As her relationship with him takes a romantic turn despite her better judgement, Claire feels as though she is finally getting nearer to the truth - but then the survivors begin inexplicably to disappear one by one...

I knew absolutely nothing about this film before watching it and that's the best way to experience this particular film I think!!
The film is primarily suspense/mystery but it's also a drama, romance and thriller; there are elements of eerieness which really caught me off guard! It got my attention very quickly and managed to hold it to the very end. It's an interesting, unusual film that will have you periodically wondering what the film is actually about! It's not a loud action-packed film but more of a quiet film that will unfold in its own time and it's definitely worth the wait - I liked the way the story and the characters developed and I was quite moved by the end of the film which was unexpected!
I don't even remember seeing a trailer for this film so don't let this one fly by under your radar - it's a satisfying treat of a film! Highly recommended!

A young psychothrapist,Claire (Anne Hathaway)is asked to deal with the traumas of five plane crash survivors. She soon becomes intimately involved with Eric (Patrick Wilson),one of the survivors. As this unethical liaison is developing, the survivors begin to mysteriously disappear one after the other, and Claire, suspecting some foul play, needs to find out what is going on. And that becomes clear about ten minutes from the end of this movie.
I found the pace of the movie rather slow, and the movie itself lacking any dramatic development. There was,for example,a clear opportunity, which the film failed to exploit, to add some extra depth to Claire's therapeutic sessions with the patients/survivors.
Also, the embarrassingly unethical relationship between Claire and her patient, Eric, was taken , for most of the movie's duration,as an every day's occurrence, and with no explanation what so ever. The viewer has to wait for more than an hour for every thing to be resolved by the end of the movie.
I have given the film a 3- star because although the acting, especially by the two main leads, is good, one can not enthuse much about the quality of the script nor the dramatic element of the mystery itself.
Finally,the concept of a dreadful aircrash would not ordinarily be my first choice for a relaxing movie watch.

I've watched so many films this year - and the really good ones you can count on two hands - "Passengers" is one of them.
At first it's a little frustrating as Anne Hathaway struggles with her therapist assignment - five men and women who've survived a crash-landed jet on American soil. They may or may not have acquired powers because of the crash - and people and odd things appear around them? Or perhaps the airline is being less than truthful about its planes and their maintenance records when she confronts them (David Morse)? Why is Patrick Wilson (one of the bloodied survivors who has recovered remarkably quickly) so determined to woe and date Anne? And why do others around Anne now want all manner of things from her - her boss wants a speedy report put in (Andre Braugher) - the suddenly way too friendly neighbor (Dianne Wiest)?
To say too much is to give too much away, and I wouldn't want to spoil it - suffice to say - like many other reviewers, I was strangely moved by this film.
"Passengers" is directed by Rodrigo Garcia - the same man who brought us the brilliant Gabriel Byrne psychiatrist drama "In Treatment" - currently building up a huge set of admirers on Sky Arts HD.
Hire this movie and bear with it - it's a gem in a sea of mediocrity.

Twist in the tale
This was a really different film, not one of the usual tragic accident films churned out. Quite gripping and believable, and you'd be surprised if you guessed the end.

I enjoyed this film ....
Had a suspician as to the circumstances half way through - but thoroughly recommend that you watch it as it was very enjoyable.

Excellent!
This is one of the best movies I've ever seen and it gave me a lot of food for thought.
