Book Description

6 Aug 2010
With stories from her travels to five continents, environmentalist, activist, and author Joanna Macy invites her readers to a new way of seeing the world and their place in it. She tells of encounters with individuals who share very personal stories of sudden awakening, unexpected awareness, and the co-mingling of joy and pain. These stories give testament to Macy's belief that even in the darkest moments of despair, hope and change are possible. A celebration of possibility, community, and imagination.

3.0 out of 5 stars initial disappointment -its growing on me 8 July 2010
By yogacat
Format:Paperback
Being a fan of Joanna Macey and having read 'widening circles', 'coming back to life', and 'thinking like a mountain' I was really looking forward to this new release and unfortunately I was disappointed. The stories can mainly be found in the other books and I think this needs to be made clear in the description.

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy, uplifting and inspiring read. 17 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
If you've not read Joanna Macy's other books, this is the perfect place to start. If you're familiar with her work, this is a great refresher.
I found the stories absorbing, uplifting and inspiring. They include details not shared elsewhere.
The five stories hang together as a whole and the book is an easy read.
I'm buying a few of these to pass on as presents.

5.0 out of 5 stars These 5 stories can change our world for the better! 28 April 2013
By Stephanie M. Anise - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought an electronic version. When I place another order for paperbacks I'll buy a copy and give it away. Thought it would be fun to write my name and location so folks can see how far good ideas travel. Joanna Macy is such a wise woman and so amazing! Oceanographer Sylvia Earle is equally inspiring for me.

This book has great wisdom to share with the world and could make a difference in the effort to heal the world for future generations. Please pass this book on...It would make a very good gift for any occasion or just because.

5.0 out of 5 stars very urgent lessons from tragedies to ecological self 30 Oct 2013
By Joon Woo Kim - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
very simple stories, but deeply touching.
"We are asked to succeed. We are acked to be faithful." will save me from frustration and despair.
Active Hope by Macy and Chris Johnstone is much much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Join the Movement! 18 Jun 2014
By J. Trimble - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Excellent video of an actual Pachamama Symposium. "Where Are We," "How Did We Get Here" sections are pretty grim, of course. But the emphasis on a movement already underway and tools and suggestions for joining that movement are superb!
