Having bought this book in order to help me revise for the Civil Service Fast Stream tests, I have to say that I've been deeply disappointed. I wasn't expecting any easy answers. What I was expecting were some practice tests with the author identifying various themes that come up in the different tests and then offering advice as to how to deal with each of these. The degree to which he does this is pitiful. Out of 232 pages, only 53 are devoted to the Fast Stream application. There is only 1 numerical and verbal reasoning test for each stage. Furthermore, there are a number of errors both in the tests and in the workings the author presents at the end (very frustrating, believe me). Finally, the "tips" section, labelled "over 100 tips and insights into the fast stream," really wasn't much help. He provides you with as many as 3 tips for the numerical tests, 2 of which simply tell you how the tests are presented (something you could find out just by going online) and this pattern is repeated for all the other sections. The E-tray exercise, perhaps the most difficult part of the Civil Service entrance exam, is dealt with in 2 pages of general advice - again, most of this could be discerned just by looking at the Fast Stream website.
I would give it 2 stars since the tests in the book did at least provide some practice, but then it doesn't take a genius to go online, look at the practice tests on the Fast Stream website and then reword them. Bryon's actually charging you for this.
On reflection, I guess there was more weight to that sentence near the start of the book "to maximise the benefit of practice, you may need more material than is contained is this volume," than I first thought. No surprises therefore that the 6 titles that are noted down after this are all written by the author. After wasting money on this title however, I definitely won't be investing in any of them.
