I'm four weeks into a Spanish Beginners course with Pasos as the text book. I bought the CD'S as well. It's to soon to comment on the book but a note of caution about the CD's. The CD's are very difficult to follow as the speed of the speakers is normal but there are no pauses in their speech so as a beginner they are very difficult to follow, pauses between each speaker would make it much easier for beginners. What is very frustrating though is there is no cross referencing between the book and the CD's. The numbering of the activities bears no relation to the track numbers so it's impossible to pick the track relating to the activity. I've scrolled through the first 50 tracks and written the number against the activity which makes it MUCH easier to follow. More thought in the production next time?????

I have been learning spanish at college and noticed my tutor had
A pasos 1 spanish book which she had copied excercises from,
for her student's.
I find the book quite helpful in completing different excercises and learning spanish as well.
I would recommend this book, it can be bought on it's own or as a complete package with an activity book and 3 x cd's

Bought this book as recommended from my tutor/course. Very good book to support classes, would recommend the CD to accompany book if studying on your own. There is plenty of information, self assessments and activities to get you well on your way to speaking Spanish.

You really need the CD's with the book if studying at home as there are listening exercises. I bought the book after studying BBC's Talk Spanish which is more useful for an absolute beginner. My main problem with this book is that I don't know if I'm getting the answers right as no solutions are provided... For a classroom, that's not so bad but it is a real problem for learning at home.

Deciding if this book is for you, consider that it is in its third addition, and revised in light of feedback from both students and teachers. The methods used have been tested over the last fifteen years. As an absolute beginner I have used this book as my introduction to Spanish, and, following a Spanish class found it easy to use. I am not so sure that someone who did not attend a class would pick up the Spanish pronunciation as quickly as someone only using the book. The stregth of the book is the clear and logical progression using forteen lessons in the first book.

I found this instruction manual for spanish for beginners very helpful. It is well laid out and was recomended for use by my first level Spanish teacher. It eases you into Spanish with useful Spanish phrases such as introducing yourself, ordering food everything that you would need for holiday conversation but also goes in depth for those who would like to learn more, as It covers grammar and verbs for the more intelligent of us. I would recommend it.

Well, I had to buy this book for two separate courses in Spanish, both at different levels. My previous book was Breakthrough Spanish 1 which was excellent. However, this book is sometimes a little basic for a level two student and at other times a little difficult. You most definitely need the set of cd's that accompany the book. So the best buy is the complete pack. I would recommend it to a beginner.

Hola, fanastic book. Very practical, easy to understand, vibrant pictures to illustrate and a whole list of words at the back with meanings in English. A lot of guidance as well within the book. Very effective if you are a beginner in Spanish. Would highly recommend it.
