Book Description

20 Sep 2012
A village detective series with a delightful slice of humor. Shepford Stacey is an unassuming little village, its greatest asset being its small but excellent Church of England Primary School. This delightfully old-fashioned establishment of only two classes, one of infants, the other of juniors, has been run by the same pair of ladies for decades. It is in the year that the headmistress, Audrey Finch-Matthews, is to retire, that the smooth running of this long-established educational establishment is interrupted by murder. When Detective Inspector Harry Falconer and Detective Sergeant Davey Carmichael of the Market Darley Police arrive to investigate, they discover a host of motives, both past and present, and grudges that reach right back through the years. As the Easter weekend grinds inexorably on its way, Death stalks the village again, and it suddenly becomes imperative that the murderer is caught before there are more fatalities. Falconer soon realises that this is not the work of an opportunistic psychopath passing through, but of someone within the small community itself, taking lives at will, and there is no indication that the slaughter will stop here.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY ENJOYABLE SERIES 9 April 2012
By MartynB
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read all four books in the Falconer series, and sincerely hope there will be many more. The books are very entertaining, in fact, I am sure I live near some of the characters!!. It is so nice that they are full of humour, and totally devoid of any unfortunate language that finds its way into a lot of books. Falconer and Carmichael are developing their working relationship so well, and a few snippets of Starr and Green are very welcome. I feel I have probably met [and worked] with Falconer in a previous life. I highly recommend these books to anyone who likes a good and entertaining mystery story, containing few gory details and inappropriate language. I really enjoyed this last book, but missed reading a few details on how Mycroft, Tarr Baby and Ruby are progressing. Looking forward to the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Tosh But, Oh, For A Proffreader 30 Jun 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The books in this series are formulaic, clichéd, utterly daft, make Midsomer Murders death rates seem positively pedestrian, and are utterly loveable for all that. Perfect for a lazy afternoon read or as a bedtime soporific.
The only downside, and it gets worse as the series goes on, is the lack of proofreading. I we us them mean a Skoda is not Scandinavian; it is s car from the Czech Republic, and let me re-enforce this with a missing in book 3. Bitz of plot get turned upsoide down. The latter two in book two are bad enuff but then the last one, eh, what is this sighing? I guess it's the pinulty of cheep Kindle vershuns butt I we'd hapilly pay mpore to git pruper INglish. It spoils the enjoyment of this series. Please fix it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Those than can, do: those that can't, Teach 10 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
At first I thought an Infants School to be a rather mundane opening location, but things develop very rapidly, and brought to life by someone with an insight into the internal workings of such an establishment. The relationship between Falconer and Carmichael is developing well, with some humour that bodes well for the future. The description and almost humanising of a house fire shows the depth of the talent of this author. The plot develops well, with enough devious turns to hold the attention throughout. The characters are all well developed and come to life in a very acceptable way, and lead you on an interesting journey throughout the book, and lure you into making decisions about them. Grab your satchel, sit quietly, pay attention to the Teacher, and enjoy the lesson.

I'm a big fan of Andrea Frazer and have read most of her books. I like them because they are brilliant who done its. She writes with humour and her main characters are endearing as she introduces you to their personalities and traits. As soon as I finish one of her books I look for another one. So I would recommend all of her books!
