4.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie .. .Outstanding Music! 2 July 2012

I had watched this movie in 1980 and still remembered the beautiful music and great characters - especially Mahmood's! The DVD is in wide-screen ... it does say upfront that this is a restored version from a vintage film so some audio and video issues may be there. Overall, just a few scratches - otherwise perfect quality.

You'd love the characters in this movie and the perfect timing and pace. One of the few movies of Dev Anand that I truly enjoyed. He appears so authentic int he role of an egotistical genius. Girish Karnad is great as always in his soft supporting role. he is such a natural actor that you wish you would see him in many more movies. Tina Munim fits the role perfectly - both as a destitute and as a musical understudy. Best role that I enjoyed most is of course that of Mahmood. It saddens to see that most directors relegate him to little useless comedic roles. Rajesh Roshan's music will be on your lips for days! (Not sure what happened to him ... although he does appear in mos t of his brother Rakesh Roshan's films (Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Krishh etc.).
