Bought this for 4 year old pirate obsessed son. He carries it everywhere, rolled up in his back pocket. It's surprisingly durable (made of a waxed paper). I would suggest all parents buy one - we've had endless fun making 'X marks the spot' with twigs in the garden (and in the house!) Wish I'd seen it earlier when I was hunting for appropriate toys for his party bags...

Jack is 5 and definately in pirate mode, I bought this map to go with a treasure chest purchased elsewhere. After secretly burying the chest in the snow and marking the spot with couple of sticks in X shape, we 'found' the map (quite by chance...) and it allowed his excitement of believing there could be buried treasure somewhere to build. We searched the garden together and his delight in using the map and actually finding the X marks the spot was justification enough for buying the map, to then dig up a treasure chest (filled with all things pirate and choc coins) just blew him away. 2 weeks later and he's still talking about it!
Ok so we'll never be able to repeat that first high, but as an accompanyment to future pirate games this map is worth every penny of its miniscule price, durable as well so should survive repeated use.

Having read the reviews I was expecting something a little sturdier than the item I received, which was made of very cheap quality thin synthetic material coated on one side with a paper thin film of matt plastic. The colours were not as bright as shown in the picture either. Having seen it in the flesh I wouldn't describe it a toy - it's more of a cheap novelty party item. It looks like it is supposed to be a disposable placemat for a themed party. I ordered several for a childrens party for party bags, and would probably have kept them despite the poor quality were it not for the awful chemical plastic smell which transferred onto the hands. They were sent back for a refund.

pirate map
I thought it was a bargain as could not find anything like it in the shops. The smile on my 4 year old was worth it very small price to pay, and came within a couple of days.
