More About the Author

World renowned for her designs, writing and teaching Lindy Smith is a highly experienced and talented British cake designer & sugarcrafter. Recognised for her exquisite attention to detail and eye for colour Lindy has been translating her designs into sugarcraft for many years From humble beginnings in her home kitchen, experimenting with the 'basics' she learnt from an inspirational teacher, she soon discovered that sugar was the perfect medium through which to express her creative abilities and original ideas. In 1997 Lindy entered her first set of competitions and much to her own amazement received 3 gold awards. She had arrived in the 'cake' world! In 1998 she started writing regular features for "Cakes and Sugarcraft Magazine". Her first cake decorating book was published in 2000. She has continued to write books ever since, loving the freedom it gives her to be highly creative and original. Lindy travels extensively for her work, gathering inspiration along the way, she has been very privileged to see first hand how sugarcraft and cake decorating is constantly evolving around the globe. Lindy runs a successful company, Lindy's Cakes Ltd, based in Buckinghamshire, UK. The online shop side of the business specialises in sugarcraft products that she has 'hand picked' herself and uses in her books. She teaches sugarcraft at regular workshops throughout the year and continues to write about sugarcraft on a regular basis. Lindy Smith is passionate about her art and brings a fresh contemporary look to sugarcraft and cake design.

Of all Lindy Smith's books (which I own) this is the one I prefer because it doen't need special equipments (like PC cutters) like her other books. Designs are simply astonishing and easy enough to make if you have some time in your hands. For most designs there is a cookie or a mini cake section and you will also learn tons of modelling techniques. Very higly recommended

I bought this book as I had purchased 'Cakes to Inspire and Desire' by the same author and really liked the way she explains her cake decorating methods.
This book did not disappoint! I was really impressed with the variety of projects shown and different techniques employed for each cake. I felt that this provides the reader with an array of really useful decorating techniques which can be incorporated into your own cake projects.
What I fount the most useful about this book was the carving techniques shown with corresponding photos to give you confidence, as carving into cake can be a bit daunting for the inexperienced! I have made a few carved cakes before and it was really good to see how Lindy goes about shaping cakes to get the right effect.
I think the way this book is set out means that it is great for both the novice and experienced cake decorator.

This book is very easy to follow. It was possible to bake a lovely professional looking birthday cake for my little son's first birthday even though I'm no professional cook or cake maker.

Enjoyed every moment.

Ordered this book as the little girl next door wanted an animal cake for her 2nd birthday and mum said do any animal. So, she ended up with the rather cute giraffe but it was really hard to chose from all the ideas in the book. All the instructions are easy to follow. Great book for beginner or advanced.

There are some fantastic cake designs. It's a pity they need to freeze the cakes to form them into the shapes, as my freezer is full to the very top
