Product Description

Product Description
There is a theory which states the most memorable record from any year isn't whatever disc is most acclaimed in award ceremonies or NME polls. It is the record that, when you play it four years later, takes you straight back to the sound of the radio, of Saturday morning TV, of pub jukeboxes and high-street clothes shops. That album for 1999 is the Vengaboys' The Party Album (who are actually two boys and two girls, but we can gloss over the details). No other record from the year is as generous and giving. Sure, it sticks to a single theme--a simple, beefy, 4x4 bassline, a catchy, quite daft chorus ("the Vengabus is coming" for instance, or "Boom, boom, boom, boom, I want you in my room"), but you know you're not going to get Beethoven when, on the cartoon album sleeve, one of the boys is dressed as a sailor, the other as a Native American. The gauntlet is thrown down--try and find another record from 1999 that can make you any more delirious. --Charlie Porter

CD Description
Vengaboys are in fact a quartet of two boys and two girls, whose sights are set firmly on the dance floor. THE PARTY ALBUM is self-explanatory in the extreme, full of perfectly crafted club beats, simple, effective synth hooks and vocals that sacrifice personal expression in favour of purposefully anonymous danceability. Any album with a song titled "Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!" (unless it's a John Lee Hooker recording) has little pretense toward artistic immortality. Vengaboysare more concerned with keeping people's feet moving and keeping the party going. They accomplish that with a healthy dose of humor, as exemplified by "Vengababes From Outer Space". THE PARTY ALBUM is so unpretentious and good-natured thatit's impossible to dislike, whether you're a dance music aficionado or not.

2.0 out of 5 stars Vengaboys - you are the weakest link, goodbye!, 10 Nov 2000
By A Customer
This CD has the 4 pop singles (Up & Down, We're Going To Ibiza, We Like To Party, Boom Boom Boom) So if you bought it, you'd expect more songs like that, right? WRONG! There isn't a single track like them on the album. Just about every other song is a .... club track with either no vocals or a word repeated and repeated.... The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because of the singles, really. Listen before you buy. Once again, an album with good singles and hideous album tracks. Shameful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for the millenium party!, 22 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This vengaboys album contains all their hits and more foot tapping tunes from the foreign artists. This album is good, and brilliant for dancing the night away during the millenium. It isn't I guess aimed at the older audience but to the younger generation. The tunes are simple but stick in your head continuosly. They can easily be hated. You can either love them or hate them - but on the whole the tunes are sooo danceable that no-one complains. I f you want to buy this then sure, go ahead, but make sure the style of the vegaboys pleases you. Altogether now.. Boom boom boom boom!

2.0 out of 5 stars boom boom boom boom, I want you in my bin!, 15 Jul 2003
By Stacey (Scotland, UK) - See all my reviews
I just dug this album out and I was surprised cause I forgot that I had bought it like 4 or 5 years ago. I have to say I looked at the wacky cover and flipped through the glossy info book in the case, and laughed. But hey, I was young and knew no better. Listening to the songs now, and knowing they're not exactly in the charts now, I cringe. The words are repetitive, and they content is so cheesy, it stinks. But on the up side, if you want to go for it and purchase this oldie, or have it and are just reading the reviews it's good for parties, and the songs are great to sing along too, mostly because the words are quite basic, and easy to pick up. However the beats are quite catchy and even the most disgruntled member of the family would find themselves tapping their feet, if not their fingers. It's Euro pop at it's best, if you look at it that way. We're going to Ibiza is always a bit of classic, and one of the more passable songs on the album. Boom boom boom boom is good for a dance but doesn't amount to much. Maybe I'm being cruel, and some people may not share my opinion, but that's how it goes. In a few words, essential to bring to a pop fest, thumbs down though to overall content. Ho ho vengaboys!
