From The Greatest Star, the most successful female recording artist of all time, and the only artist to have a number one album in five consecutive decades, comes her stunning new duets album "Partners."

Barbra Streisand is, without any doubt, a living legend, and she proves her status here in her new album, reinventing classic songs of hers along with new additions to her catalogue. But fans of Streisand shouldn't fear, these aren't the same old songs we've heard countless times before - new life has been breathed into these favourites, with a whole different meaning and sound - you'll be surprised at how new these songs sound. Whether an old fan whose loved Streisand for years, or someone interested in her - this is the album to get to know Barbra and fall in love with her for the first time - or be reminded why you fell in love with her in the first place.

This is an amazing album. I have been a Streisand fan for more years than I care to remember; but this album has blown me away. It took 2 years to make & was certainly worth it. Barbra's voice has got deeper & richer as time has gone by & on the new tracks it is magnificent. There is nothing on here that I do not like but my favourites are the track with Andrea Bocelli & Jason Gould, her son. Whenever I hear them they send shivers down my spine. Well done Barbra & thank you for the pleasure that this album has given me & all your fans worldwide.

This is not a perfect album. Perhaps it's because I know most of the original songs so well that it becomes jarring to hear them done differently. Not all the pairings work well either. But there are some absolute gems here, like the "I still can see your face" duet with Andrea Bocelli.

Other notable tracks are "It Had to be You" with Michael Buble and "Somewhere" with Josh Groban. The duets with John Mayer, her son Jason Gould and Billy Joel are well done too. It's the Babyface, Stevie Wonder and Lionel Ritchie tracks that leave me cold. Maybe I'd hoped for more with those incredible voices.

I'm giving it 4 stars because the album works well as a whole listening experience. You never get bored as there is plenty of variety and Barbra's voice is perfect. You can tell she had fun making the album and I love reading the notes on each track which is something Barbra often does, which makes buying the CD essential.

If it's not too much to ask, can we have a female partner version? Duets with Linda Eder, Edina Menzel, etc would be sublime.

"Partners" album by Barbra Streisand will long be remembered for a very impressive feat: it helped the iconic entertainer achieve historic status of having a number one album in US sales charts in six consecutive decades. Yes, from a fresh-faced stunning newcomer in the 1960's, through hitmaking celebrity of 1970's, she wound up as an adult-contemporary stalwart in the 1980's and has remained such ever since.

And there is something even more amazing - in 1990's she was commercially overshadowed by similar-style artists like Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, who, although trying well, have recently failed to spark the general interest as much as Barbra Streisand did. This is very interesting, as Barbra's style remains basically the same for many, many years; well-sung (sometimes oversung) ballads and mid-tempos which are safely easy-listening, soothing and romantic.

That said, this 2014 offering is a clever marketing move, involving the same producers - Walter Afanasieff and Babyface - who ruled the charts just in the 1990's alongside Mariah, Celine, Whitney Houston or Toni Braxton. Why change what works?

Indeed, the album is not a strict departure from anything Barbra put out in the past. New generations are thus discovering her signature songs, remade as duets with very desired and popular singers of past and present.

For example, the current leader of traditional pop pack, Michael Buble, joins in on a seductive, groovy opener, "It Had To Be You", followed by Stevie Wonder on "People", the tune dating back to time when the young Stevie was a freshly sparkling diamond for a Motown label. Another well-chosen partner is Babyface for the new version of "Evergreen", where the hint of r&b sounds just fine.
