Brilliant. 16 Sep 2004
Format:Audio CD
Particles and Waves is like tip-toeing around the edges of dream. It's thin, electronicy, slightly insubstantial and a real joy to listen to. I never really rated Future Songs, don't know why, it just didn't really appeal. The other albums though are fantastic, however if you're expecting something along the lines of Wings of Joy or Forever with the thumping bass and driving melodies then forget it. Particles and Waves is not like that at all. There's a dynamism in the other albums that's missing from Particles, but not in a bad way. Kind of like taking the middle out of a merringue, leaving a very thin shell then putting it in the sun. It's all melty and dreamy. A truly excellent album from one of the most intersting bands around.

I first came across Cranes a mere week ago, when i was at a party. Someone said put some 'chillout' music on and Particles and Waves began to softly float out of the speakers. Everyone sat there in awe at the beauty of delicate yet powerful voice of Alison Shaw against music that is surely what is played in heaven. It fills you with absolute bliss and I highly recommend listening to this album (and other Cranes albums) to calm the soul and relax the mind. Beautiful.

lovely and utterly distinctive - very beautiful and of itself with the voice to send you to bliss and back - not sure if it is chill out its far more different and inventive and clever than that - i loved it -used to be a fan of this band around 12 years ago and discovered this cd - yes on amazon when clicking away -really pleased i brought it - alison' voice is sensational.
