Pros: many topics, sound mathematical approach, almost complete book. It definely does the job for most courses on PDEs (in my case, Politecnico di Milano, it covers the topics for both a beginner and advanced course in pde)

Cons: proofs are a bit short, and a good part of the job is left to the reader - in this sense it is an advanced textbook.

All in all, a really good book!

This is by no means an introductory text. That said, I am in a class where this book is used but we spend a lot of our class time going over the proofs and it is an incredibly valuable skill that I am learning.

First of all, this is not a book for a first course in PDE's. It requires prior knowledge of Functional Analysis and other disciplines of analysis which are not obtained in standard undergraduate courses. I agree with Professor Carlos Kenig, who says that suggests this book for his students before their first exam during the doctorate. In my opinion, it could have more motivation before the proofs or the introduction of a certain concepts. I like the new chapter about nonlinear wave equation.
