Brad Paisley's unabashedly back-to-basics 1999 debut, Who Needs Pictures, went platinum in the US. Part II continues that direction with 13 songs (10 of them co-written by Paisley) that build on that impressive beginning. While "Two People Fell in Love" and "I Wish You'd Stay" overflow with heart and eloquence, he's witty on "Two Feet of Topsoil", loungey on "You Have That Effect on Me" and loopy with "Come on Over Tonight". He evokes his West Virginia roots with a stark rendition of Darrell Scott's "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive", while Buck Owens, George Jones and Bill Anderson join him on the obligatory vocal event, Anderson's "Too Country". But Paisley's courage goes further. It takes nerve to slap an instrumental ("Munster Rag") on any Nashville-produced album in 2001 and even greater fortitude to close it out with an emotional acoustic performance of "The Old Rugged Cross" recorded live at the Opry. Part II makes one magnificent, resounding point: mainstream Nashville, try as they might, hasn't quite succeeded in confining traditional country to the Hall of Fame --Rich Kienzle

Paisley's second album "Part II" surely surpasses his first "Who Needs Pictures". There is the same combination of humour with tracks such as "Two Feet of Top Soil", "I'm Gonna Miss Her" and "Come on Over Tonight", and tear-jerking ballads (I Wish You'd Stay), but presented by a more accomplished artist who has gained in confidence and demonstrates more of his natural West Virginia talent. Country music at its best is alive and well in the hands of the crushingly handsome Brad Paisley, and he wants us to know it too with the final rendition of "Too Country". I agree, guys, there is no such thing! This album is just country enough for me - plenty!

The witty lyrics and musical mastery come through clear and strong. We have 5 Brad Paisley CDs so far, and they never fail to please! Intelligent, hilarious, great feet-tapping listening!

Part II is the sophmore release that shows that Brad Paisley is here to stay in country music!!What a cracking album.
He begins with the toe tapping Two Feet Of Topsoil,then his big breakout no.1 hit I'm Gonna Miss Her(very funny).Also included are the hits Wrapped Around-love Brads electric guitar solo on this and the 2 lovely ballads Two People Fell In Love and I Wish You'd Stay.
Other standouts include the beautiful collaboration with the fantastic Chely Wright on the ballad Part II which she sings harmonies on and she also co wrote the excellent Come On Over Tonight with Brad-great song.
He then ends the album with 2 gorgeous songs.The big country anthem Too Country feat Bill Anderson,George Jones and Buck Owens.Love the lyrics to this and a beautiful rendition of the classic gospel song The Old Rugged Cross,which Brad sings live on the Grand Ole Opry with just his acoustic guitar,simply stunning.
You cannot possibly go wrong with this fantastic album.An absolute must for any true country fan....
