Anyone who loves English music at its best should have this version of Parry's 'Invocation to Music' in their collection. It is one of the loveliest pieces of music ever written: the melodies flow from the composer's pen, right from the start and the architecture of the whole piece is well-conceived.
The orchestral playing is superb as is the choral singing and solo soprano Anne Dawson is glorious! She has one of the most beautiful voices ever heard on CD, especially poignant and overwhelming, especially in the section 'Rejoice, ye dead, where'er your spirits dwell'.
This music is one of the finest ever crafted. Treasure it with this recording.

Parry: Invocation to Music; The Soul's Ransom; Etc.
We Played the first movement of Invocation to Music at our Civil Partnership ceremony in 2006, it is without doubt a superb piece and this is a wonderful recording of it. I was surprised that in the BBC's Prince of Wales' tribute to Sir Hubert that Invocation to Music wasn't mentioned, I really don't understand why, I think it is one of his finest choral works.

Whilst both Blest Pair of Sirens and I Was Glad are both well worth having, I don't think these recordings are the most thrilling. To date I have found An Invocation to Music rather disappointing compared with the pieces in the first CD.
