These clip together nicely, they separate nicely and they're a nice shade of blue. The plastic is nice, the blue is nice. The moulding job is classily done, and they look as if they might do a halfway decent job.

But - they don't!

While they do *look* okay and even fooled my eye on first glance into expecting them to *work* okay, they are designed with tapered noses which are the thin ends meant to slip under the tyre bead to lever/ease it out/over the rim - and this taper ensures that when you've eventually succeeded in persuading maybe three inches of tyre-bead over with two levers it's normal practice to get the third into place to extend the length of opening prior to getting the tube out.

That's when these evil little Gremlins play their favourite trick - and jump out because the pinching action of the bead and the rim does a sudden cherry-stone pinchout, launching the lever at close to sonic velocity right in your face. It's thanks to my specs that I still have two eyes.

I imagine this stupidly tapered design is because the levers, if made with no tapered thickening, would lack sufficient rigidity to withstand tyre leverage pressures - and while this may be effective in avoiding breakages, it introduces a whole new problem as outlined above.

After two more abortive tries, these levers were abandoned and the cutlery drawer searched - and three old teaspoons which were designed to spoon tea were also found to work admirably for levering off bicycle tyres, even reluctant ones like mine.

So my tip is - carry three old teaspoons, the kind your grandmother might have used. Those old ones were better made than the junky stuff stamped out of S.Steel we mostly use these days. Spoons with thin rounded ends are what you want..

1.0 out of 5 stars Shockingly poor quality and bad design. 9 Aug 2014
By BJB
I have used these three times now and two of them have broken, firing nice little shards of sharp blue plastic into my tyre housing. Just what I wanted. Shockingly badly designed, so that they make the work of removing or replacing a tyre into a sweaty, sweary, knuckle-scraping nightmare instead of a five minute repair. Tips break easily, and the hooks are so badly designed that you need to bend the levers almost in half to get them to engage with a spoke, which can't be good for the spoke either. They pop out at will, and I have pinched and punctured two tubes while repairing punctures - never having done this before in my entire bicycle-owning life. Which is longer than I'd like to admit. Simply horrible little tools which are not only not fit for purpose, but which are fit for absolutely nothing, apart from dropping into the nearest bin. Got them in a toolkit with SuperPatches, which are also a waste of money. Not my finest hour on Amazon!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tough Lil Tool 23 April 2014

Bought these to replace the ones which came with my bike repair kit. Those ones snapped the first time I tried to use them. These things are so tough, you'd be forgiven for thinking they were made of iron! Tough handy little tools!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best quality 17 Dec 2013

Great tyre levers, these are made of good quality resin, that have a very slight flex, which is good. Park Tools name speaks for itself and even a small item like this shows their fine quality and attention to detail.

Cheap, cheerful and very effective, not the most exciting thing in the world but you'll be glad of them when you need them.
