I first spotted this pump when the Mavic mechanical support at the Etape Mercia topped up my tyres for me. Hard to believe you can buy a pump of this quality at this price. Quickly and easily gets pressures to 100 psi. What's not to like.

Mine was really poor quality. Air came out of the bottom of the tube and it did not grip on tubes with a smooth surface.

Great pump, sticky pump head. 14 May 2010
By Richard F. - Published on Amazon.com

In the past I used my large, AC powered air compressor with a typical car-tire inflation tool with my bicycle tires. (My bike has Schrader valves.) But it gets to be a hassle to run the compressor to "top off" bike tires. Thus the reason for buying this pump. The unit appears well made, as you'd expect from Park Tools. The gauge is large enough to read from 10 feet away, so it's no problem to read while standing over the pump. The large foot pads make it very steady when pumping up a tire. It also has a good volume output, works more quickly than some smaller pumps.

The only issue I had with it was how tight the pump head fits on the valve stem. It's quite a chore to push it on, and very difficult to remove after filling the tire. Some air always leaks out. I had one occasion where I had to pull so hard to remove the pump head, the stem tore loose from the inner tube. Had to replace the tube. To loosen-up the head, I took the gasket out of the head (instructions are on the Park Tool web site) and used the detached valve stem as a reamer to work back and forth in the gasket to open it up a little.

All in all, it's a very good pump and well worth the price. The only caveat is: be very careful when removing the pump head after filling the tire.

Good but just short of great. 10 July 2010

I wanted a good floor pump that I could use for both Presta and Schrader valves. I also wanted something that was both good quality, I hate crappy tools, but not super expensive. Overall this pump is everything I wanted. Good quality which is what I would expect from Park Tool. The dial is easy to read and has a needle for pumping up balls and such. The red adjustable dial is worthless but doesn't hinder the pump in anyway. My only real complaint and the reason for not giving this pump five stars is the valve socket is really tight, to tight in fact. It is hard to get it on and really hard to get it off. Yes, I flipped the locking lever off, it is just to tight. However, this will probably loosen up over time and should work better. Another issue is the socket head is a little to big for some of the wheels on my kids bikes. This is not a major problem since I bought this mainly for my wife's bike and mine but something to keep in mind if you have spoke covers for whatever reason. Again, good product that is just short of being perfect.
Good, but should be better 7 Oct 2013

I love the big pressure dial, but the head seems to be a bit difficult to attach and remove from the valve.
A good basic pump, needs better o-rings in the head. 8 Feb 2013

The PFP-5 pump is well engineered and built. It is a very soild, good working pump, the large pressure guage is a definite plus for my older eyes. My only complaint is the excessive tightness of the presta valve portions o-ring. these could be slightly looser so they slide on easier. A small gripe, otherwise I highly recommend this as your shop pump.
Love it. 8 Jan 2012

This pump is great! I love how big the air pressure gave is on the bottom. A blind man could read his psi. The bottom folds up for easy storage. Its a great design.
