5.0 out of 5 stars Park tool chain scrubber 16 July 2010
Fantastic tool. I thought I had cleaned the chain on my bike pretty well until I used the chain scrubber. Gear changing is much smoother now. I would recommend this to anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars bad hair day 1 Mar 2012

I found this device to be quite firm and not feel as flimsy as some suggest. It seems to do a really good job of cleaning the chain, Including all those nasty little bits of metal the chain collects with its "Powerful Magnet".
However I'm marking this device down because of the outrageous built in obsolescence of the bushes that are contained within the main body of the unit.
These brushes are designed to come out and be cleaned and replaced.
I imagine I'll be replacing them quite a lot as my chain seems to pull the bristles out quite readily.
I now have a wonderfully clean chain with whiskers.. Imagine (if you old enuf) Capt. Caveman's Chin.

Its well worth the price though despite this horrible stubble all over my chain.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect if you're lazy, superfluous if not. 10 Jun 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase
Exactly as the blurb says. Fill to the line with degreaser, snap it over your chain, and rotate the crank furiously for a couple of minutes.

It doesn't return your chain to a brand new appearance - but it does do what it says: Scrubs and cleans the chain.

If you're a dedicated bike cleaner type of person, you'll find this a great timesaver, and if you're lazy - even more so. If you don't mind the rags and scrubbing brushes type of approach, then this isn't for you, and to behonest, probably doesn't do as good a job as the manual labour intensive methods.

Two things to note: Once you've de-greased your chain, you need to remove the de-greaser, dry and re-apply oil. That's not an automatic process.
One reviewer stated that the bristles were pulled out - I can't say I've had that problem myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing bit of kit 14 April 2013
I have to say i was reluctant when i first saw this. I was always used to cleaning my chain with an old toothbrush and some degreaser. But the problem was it took forever and I'd always get splattered with oil. With this tool you fill it to the line with a good degreaser , (and no you dont have to pay the earth for for a degreaser any decent citrus bio degradable solution will do.) Then Slot it over the chain, fit the top section and secure the metal clips and then turn your pedals backwards 30 revolutions. After I took it off my chain, I couldn't believe how clean and shiny it was, i then filled it up with fairy liquid and water to the line and did the same again. This is to get all the remaining degrease gunk off and then you dry it and apply lube.
This is a brilliant piece of kit and it also keeps the mess intact. If your doing it indoors just put an old towel under your chain or some news paper as there is a tiny pit of spillage but nothing that would make a huge mess. You will need to clean it out afterwards but this is easy and it just needs running in the sink with washing up liquid and warm water.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well, I don't know, almost thirty quid? 8 Mar 2013
By Paul

I would have to admit, I was terribly unimpressed by its performance at first. It scrubbed some grease off the chain, the soapy water I put into it got a bit grey, and that was it. Nothing I couldn't do with a cloth. And then I decided to put some Dettol in it. Wow. To cut a long story short, my chain with about 700 miles worth of grease and dirt on it looked like new in about 10 minutes, and later on I found out that it ran like new, too.
It might sound silly, but in fifteen years of trail cycling I never had an in situ cleaner. Always lubed my chains and did the toothbrush thing - and would from time to time take them off and rinse in solvent for cleaning. This one is a marvel, I should've bought one ages ago.
The thing is built well, not flimsy in the least and feels very sturdy. It has to - I felt like the strain on it was quite significant.
The process is not mess-free anyway. Even if you don't spill anything from the box, the chain will be wet, and it will be dripping on the floor, but hey, it works otherwise.

The biggest downside for me was the price. The RRP is 28 quid, and that's for a plastic box, a handle, a magnet, two clips, three brushes and a sponge. In fact, once you look at it closely, you'll realise that there's not much to it. Does the job, don't get me wrong, but it would appear that Park Tool themselves have noticed it - the packaging keeps bragging about gazillions of bristles brushing the chain. You don't see anything like that on toothbrush packaging? That's cause they don't cost nine quid a pop :)

But I'm happy I got it - went for good reviews so that I don't end up a similarly-shaped object that falls apart after a few uses, and in principle I'm quite happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars You need one of these! 10 Oct 2012

This is the 2nd one of these I have purchased. The first ended up in bits (run over by a car so no fault of the product!)
It works a treat. It can be a little messy so have something on the floor underneath to catch the splashes. I use an old sheet. Much better if you can put the bike on a maintenance stand, but that goes for most bike jobs anyway. It is far less messy than a traditional chain bath and old toothbrush. Brings up the chain like new. I use a cheaper Halfords citrus cleaner. Get one, you won't regret it.
As usual can't fault the service from Amazon.
