Samuel Fuller directs this 1950s US drama exploring the fierce competition between two newspapers in New York City. Fuller, a former journalist himself, was familiar with the terrain of Park Row, New York's centre of journalism, and endeavoured to bring the street's atmosphere to the screen. When dedicated journalist Phineas Mitchell (Gene Evans) launches his own newspaper, The Globe, he is delighted by its success and ability to capture the imagination of New Yorkers. However, the paper that previously employed Mitchell, The Star, is not about to cede its readership and sets about trying to reign in The Globe by any means possible. To complicate matters further, The Star's editor, Charity Hackett (Mary Welch), has always been attracted to Phineas and the feeling may well be mutual...

Great vintage film really good to watch the first newspapers being set up in New York & newspaper stands and the newspaper 'wars' between rivals
