Review

See Paris as you've never seen it before. Aerial photographer extraordinaire Yann Arthus-Bertrand won world acclaim with the best-selling "Earth from Above" and here offers Paris from the air, the most romantic city in the world, photographed from his specially adapted helicopter. The eclectic mix of ancient and modern are shown to their best advantage, the Seine providing a watery backdrop throughout to the stunning photography. Secret rooftop gardens, squares and formal parks seen in a reality only visualised by designers on plans. The pinpricks of people and cars put the bustling city into perspective, giving it an almost tranquil air totally alien to its nature but, at the same time, displaying a vastness unrealised on the ground. Covering old Paris, the Left Bank, the Right Bank, working class Paris and Paris today, this is a fascinating work, ensuring many hours of avid perusal for all lovers of this stunning city. A coffee table book, a reference book, a travel guide and a photographic work of art all rolled into one, this is a must for Parisiennes and visitors alike. - Lucy Watson

Yann Arthus-Bertrand, one of the world's specialists in aerial photography and author of the spectacular "Earth from Above", captures the City of Light from up high. The breathtaking images in this bestselling volume give us a privileged bird's eye view of Paris's beautiful streets, famous monuments, tiny "quartiers" with their trees and squares, and glorious roof tops. Highlights include Notre Dame, bathed in radiant light; the Arc de Triomphe and the toile; the Louvre and its attendant grounds; several stunning skyscapes, and of course the dazzling Eiffel Tower.

Format:Hardcover
An aerial tour above Paris that shows this wonderful city at its glorious best. 176 pages of breathtaking and spectacular photos that show all the sights and put them in a context that a map and even a walk around the city cannot give. Yann Arthus Bertrand is the world's greatest aerial photographer and he is at the height of his powers in this book, presenting the city of Paris which he knows so intimately. This British edition of the book provides excellent commentary in both French and English and the price from Amazon is excellent! Be warned, if you buy the book in Paris you will pay more than twice as much as the Amazon price.

A small postcard version - which is too small and which my comments refer to - and a larger book, which I think the other reviewer is referring to. I'll be sending the small one back and getting the larger one.

Yves Arthur Bertrand is a great photographer, and worth buying in large format.

I dont think this is the book the previous review refers to. This is tiny post card size book, which is way too small for the subject matter - the images seem cramped and cropped. There are only 90 odd pages.

Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a wonderful photographer, but this book does him no favours. Rather disappointed.
