A Brilliant Book,
By
This review is from: Parents Who Kill: Murderers of Newborn, Pre-Teen and Teenage Children (Paperback)
In her latest spine-chilling oeuvre, Carol Anne Davis does it again. And yet, in recounting some of the most jaw-dropping crimes, world-wide, against children, she does so authoritatively, dispassionately and compassionately.
Her compassion is always reserved for the unfortunate children, but also for the parents of severely disabled children, who believe that killing their offspring is both necessary and justifiable, rather than leave them to a cruel, unfeeling world when they, the parents, die. But those tales are in the minority; much of the book is filled with parents either killing their children as a result of mental illness, for gain or spite; or the tales of the sub-humans, masquerading as human beings who subject their - or their partner's - children to the most grotesque savagery. I believed that I had read a comprehensive account in the press of the events which led to the death of `Baby P' in north London but I was wrong. Ms. Davis has delved long and hard into the behaviour of Baby P's stepfather, details of which beggars belief. That the doctors, police and social workers could be fobbed-off, on sixty occasions within a period of eight months, with nobody willing to take the conspicuously abused child into care, should be sufficient to make them collectively hang their heads in shame. Once again, Carol Anne Davis has produced a magnificent book; and the harrowing tales end with a `Saving Lives' chapter. That, and the preceding twenty-four chapters should be required reading for anybody involved in the world of child protection. A must-read.

Poor analysis and presentation,

This review is from: Parents Who Kill: Murderers of Newborn, Pre-Teen and Teenage Children (Paperback)
While there are a large number of cases of infanticide presented in this book there is no evidence of any authoritative research, particularly in the more recent cases, other than what is already in the public arena. I found the author's negative comments toward the perpetrators to be judgemental and unprofessional, which over time became extremely irritating. It would be much more effective to allow readers to come to conclusions themselves. On the whole, this was a very disappointing read.
