Product Description

Product Description

Dan Jones has over 10 years experience with children and young people with emotional & behavioural problems, ADHD, ODD and Aspergers & with offering parenting support. He also helped to set up a Therapeutic Children's Home and has held a number of training courses for professionals in how to work with children and young people that exhibit challenging behaviour. This book has been written to be a quick read. It has as much 'jargon' and 'research' cut out as possible leaving the reader with what they can use right now to make a difference and get results. As well as being trained in behaviour management Dan has also trained and taught extensively in Solution Focused Therapy; Human Givens Approach to Therapy and Ericksonian Psychotherapy. All techniques and skills in this book have been successfully applied in real situations by the author and by parents that Dan has worked with over the years.

I got this as I have a father and nephew with aspergers, adhd, OCD and BPD.
This is badly written with poor grammar, poor sentence structure and spelling mistakes. The advice given by the so called expert is just as low grade, for example if you are a parent and your child with behavioural problems is swearing at you and telling you that they hate you, commend them for feeling comfortable enough to express themselves so freely!!!

Anyone remember Dr Spock from the '60s? (Not Mr Spock from Star Trek)

I only downloaded this as it was free. Serves me right I guess. You could probably get better advice about dealing with "challenged" individuals from a Judge Dredd comic.

I'm off to commend my dad now for all his misdemeanours.

Not for everyone 11 Feb 2012

I would say this book is aimed at parents with children with mild disabilities as most of the techniques require an understanding that a lot of ASD or ADHD would struggle with. Asking a child to breath in for 7 seconds and breath out for 11 seconds to calm them down would be hard to explain but that's coming from a parent of a child with severe autism and I know little of this book would work with him for example to walk away from the situation would only wind my son up more and he would follow me. It might work on stroppy teenagers (don't have any myself) and can see his reasoning with situations that would work with them. All in all this was a free download so can't complain for the price just wasn't for me and don't think it would help parents with children that don't have almost total understanding of how things work
