In "Parasomnia," a stylish horror from director William Malone (House on Haunted Hill, Masters of Horror) Laura Baxter is a young woman who suffers from a medical condition called "parasomnia." A childhood accident victim, she is actually sleeping her life away, awakening briefly on rare occasions. Art student Danny Sloan falls in love with her, unaware that her hospital neighbour, a terrifying mass murderer and mesmerist named Byron Volpe, has other, more sinister plans. Sloan helps Laura escape from her hospital prison only to discover that Volpe is about to enter her dreams and the mayhem is about to start

This is quite a rare and brilliant horror film, some good acting, an original and interesting story, visualy the film is really cool with some really bizarre stuff going on, worth checking out if you want something abit different than your usual horror film. it still has its bloody moments and nice looking hotties and of course Jeffrey Combs who is brilliant and as accentric as always.

First of all, I have given this 5 stars to boost it's rating as it's getting some really bad reviews.

It's a low budget film about a psychotic hypnotist who uses people to kill other people, throw in some crazy Clive Barker-esque visuals (some better than others due to budget), some cool death scenes and a decent enough story and you have this film in a nutshell.

Try not to be too dissuaded by the bad reviews as this film is clearly cinematic Marmite! It's reasonably priced so purchase and make up your own mind. Also watch for a cool wee John Landis cameo.

The plot itself is so ridiculous it becomes a joke unto itself. Yes, parasomnia cases do exist but not on this film. Utter rubbish and a waste of talents. Avoid at all cost!!!

5 of 9 people found the following review helpful By Reuben Cool on 22 Sep 2009

This film was not only disappointing but truly awful. The idea was enough to convince me to watch, a serial killer controlling people to act out his murderous deeds through hypnosis, and this in itself could have been good. However, plot turns were cringeworthily(is this a word?) convenient and events in the final quarter were more laughable than sinister.
Seemingly shot on a low budget, effects looked like a mixture from Labyrinth and Garth Merenghi's Darkplace(!) with the dream sequences being painful to watch, but in the wrong way. Perhaps the film is not supposed to be taken seriously but when labelled a gripping psychological thriller, you expect more.
The ending was woeful on two counts, I won't reveal too much but it was bad and then just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, the final scene pushed it towards farce.
So, I don't recommend this unless you want a good laugh.

Properly creepy horror-thriller, really good to see William Malone back in the directr's chair. Some really interesting cast members as well, including Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator) and a blink-and-you-miss it cameo from Sean Young that yuo won't forget!
