I needed a Windows XP Application on my iMac to access work cctv. Boot Camp was great when I first used it, but a bit of a fiddle, shutting down and rebooting. Parallels fixed all that. Once it was installed it took control of Boot Camp and the Windows Apps on the partitioned drive are available straight from the dock. Nice one!

I have some windows software which I need to use. Installing this software allows me to do this and have the best of both worlds.

I have previously used earlier versions of this software on my iMac so there weren't that many surprises on installing and running this version. However, the one major difference that I did notice is the speed at which this programme will load the guest operating system - that being Windows Vista in my case and the overall speed once working within the Windows environment. There is still a bit of a wait, about one minute from opening Parallels Desktop to logging in to Vista with my hardware configuration (27" i3 iMac), but this is nowhere near as slow as previous versions. Other improvements include being able to use Spotlight to search for Windows programmes, faster graphics rendering and smoother transition from the Mac OS to Windows OS. I only use the software in "windows" mode and have probably not configured it for optimum use as I don't need to run Windows software that much. I have tried other virtualisation software, none of which was anywhere near as easy to use or as fast as Parallels.
