Format:Audio CD
Sadly, the only album she recorded. A gentle, mostly acoustic magical late sixties Richard Brautigan in a trout stream Big Sur mushroomy rural Californian Visions of Johanna introspective collection of songs. 'Chimacum Rain' captures the quiet beauty of days of rain in the country and the'silences between leaves'. 'Delicious' is the joy of being alive. Nothing else really sounds like this record or manages to capture a feeling, mood and moment of a time and place. I suppose the nearest comparison would be Vashti Bunyan's first album, early 'Urge for Going' Joni or Skip Spence's 'Oar'. I play this record almost every day. Thanks Linda.

Linda Perhacs career in many ways is the American mirror of Vashti Bunyan's. Both are young gwomen driven to writing music and both released albums in 1970 to a deafening silence and indifference. Vashti lost herself in Scotland whilst Linda carried on equally forgotten as a dental technician for the next three decades. If Vashti discovered via a web search that she was a cult, Linda clearly didn't even use the internet as it was only recently she was tracked down. The result is the first proper release of Parallelograms, only this time you can actually hear the tracks: the legend is that the only pressing in 1970 was so poor as to be unplayable. However Linda had the original tapes from which this reissue was mastered.
It's easy to dismiss this as sub Mitchell and indeed in 1970 the world was swamped in such singer songwriters. But a listen will convince you that Parallelograms stands up on its own rights. The title track is a joyful play on words and soundscapes and was the sort of `spaced out' sound that was more the preserve on English psychedelic bands. Not a girl composing songs totally isolated in a dentists. Put it on repeat and its prescience becomes clear. Chimacum Rain if anything is better, a spacey song which will bring back languid afternoons with a lover. The variety of music on the tracks throughout shows a surprising range. Linda was not a one trick pony. Indeed the one unreleased song, If You Were My Man is even pure Carpenters! For me the standout track is also the simplest song, Hey, Who Really Cares?, a short lament on loneliness which touches all the buttons. If ever there was a song that deserves to become a classic, this is it.
Linda is currently recording again. Whether she can triumphantly return like Vashti will be interesting to see. Whatever the future holds, this is a gem.

Few people you talk to will have heard of Linda Perhacs. This is puzzling because any fan of folk or acoustic music would almost definately love this. Most of her songs are dreamy, mellow numbers with a great air of hypnotism. And then there are some slightly more upbeat songs which might appeal to people who don't like dreamy acoustic songs. Thankfully, the upbeat songs are still subtle and don't ruin the relaxing mood the other songs have put you in.
Linda Perhacs is very unique and I struggle to compare her to anyone.Therefore I would very much like someone to tell me who is similar to her. But if I was forced to make a comparison, then the best I can do is to say that Linda Perhacs is probably the Californian version of Vashti Bunyan. She made one album in the early '70s and then nothing else. Not even one this century! Although I've forced myself to compare Linda Perhacs to Vashti Bunyan, they are still very different. Linda Perhacs being the slightly more experimental of the two.
The opening song on this album, Chimacum Rain, is simply dazzling. One of the most vivid songs I have ever heard.
I cannot recommend this album enough.

A wonderful album, somewhere between a female Tim Buckley and the first Joni Mitchell, a true discovery.
