2.0 out of 5 stars Sex and drugs and wrack and ruin, 10 April 2000
By A Customer
This is an extremely disturbing book that forces you to confront your own psychological (and psychopathological) parameters. Lunch is abused as a child, and this sets her off on an insane sexual arc... A graphic account of Lunch's sexual misadventures, it will leave you with a really bad taste in your mouth. Ultimately, you can't really relate to very much of the content, but as a psychosexual document (and an overview if the burgeoning NY punk scene of the late seventies) this provides almost far more than you'd want to know... Sickening, saddening, erotic (in a very twisted way) and maddening, this is a book you will never forget. Unfortunately.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all punks!, 28 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Although other reviewers have said this book is disturbing and insane, I would say that it is a must for all punks and death-metalers! Before reading this I had not read any of Lunch's works, but had listened to some recordings of her poems. To call this book 'disturbing' would be an exageration, as her works reflect totally upon this time of her life and of the state of her surroundings. Anyone who understands the 'rules' of the punk world will find this book enthrawling. Even though the sexual material and language is explicit the punk era fasinates me, and Lunch's experience of it portrays the era that i will never see as somewhere of fun, adventure and harsh reality. The deffinate story of a survivor. Now pass me the vodka and cigs!

1.0 out of 5 stars Paradoxia, 11 May 2009
Reading this book is rather like being placed inside the mind of a dirty old man who is patiently noting down a teenager's sexual fantasies from the back of a toilet door. It provides little or no insight into what should have been a fascinating examination of an interesting person's horrific experience in an extraordinary time and place. The language is lazy, cliched and melodramatic and the whole thing is so over written that if it is true, it certainly doesn't come across that way. It boldly proclaims that no names have been changed -as they're all guilty- but a few rather important ones seem to have been conveniently omitted. Great emphasis is put on lurid descriptions of sexual acts and these are topped off with a few pat pop-psycology phrases by way of explanation. Special attention should be brought to the hilarious introduction by Jerry Stahl, in which he proclaims -in capitals- 'BEHOLD THE DOUBLE-D DOSTOYEVSKY' I feel sure that this is very much an exaggeration. Ultimately, this book desperately wants to be visceral, painful and disturbing. It really isn't. It's more of an Anais Nin in sticky knickers affair. Someone get this woman a ghost writer.
