Product Description

In Scotland, in the years after an apocalyptic disaster, the surviving people have reverted to clan life and are living off the carcass of the old world. But not everyone has forgotten the technology of the past and not everyone has forgotten the mystical secrets of the ages gone before. Propelled by an act of compassion, Malcolm, a young clansman, finds himself lost in a land of physical and metaphysical conflict that has changed far more than anyone realised. But which path is the right one? Which Paradigm is real?

4.0 out of 5 stars New Author New Ideas 6 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
In a similar vein to Torchwood or Terry Pratchett books but with a bit of mystical and spiritual spin I found myself drawn into the story and wanting to explore the images and ideas further. I'm recommending this to some of my more sceptical friends and to those who have never read this type of book before.Paradigms

4.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting fantasy 29 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Chris McKenna's novel is an enchanting tale that is both mystical and thrilling. The story is set in post apocalyptic Scotland, but it also takes the reader on a spiritual journey as the protagonists discover mystical powers and depths. McKenna has crafted a well executed vision of the future, one which fantasy and thriller readers alike will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, fascinating and thought-provoking 16 April 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
`Paradigms' draws you in and takes you on a fantastic and fascinating journey alongside the protagonist Malcolm. I highly recommend this book. The ideas underlying it got my mind going and I never knew where the story was heading. The detailed descriptions made each place `real' and all of the characters were fleshed out so that there were no simplistic `bad' guys; each character had his or her motivations that were understandable for the reader. I found Judas particularly intriguing. And like all good fantasy and sci-fi, the futuristic world of `Paradigms' encourages us to reflect on our current society, beliefs and behaviour. `Paradigms' is an exploration of some ancient, fundamental questions that remain relevant. How should we live? How can we live together? Are humans a part of nature or apart from it? An absorbing and entertaining read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read 15 April 2012
I downloaded this book and found it to be a good read. The book takes the reader on a journey to the future with some very complex characters. I highly suggest this book for all of the Blade Runner elitists like myself.

4.0 out of 5 stars An unwilling action hero 25 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Paradigms is a gritty story about a brutal world and our hero, Malcolm's, search for some meaning to his life. The descriptions of the tragic Clans, hopelessly grubbing in the ruins for broken relics, are moving as are the losses of friends and civilisations in this bleak world. Malcolm's quest is standard fantasy fare and a good story but the author merges it with a spiritual journey loaded with metaphor that invites all sorts of comparisons to our own world and ways of life. The pace and action as Malcolm makes his escape and explores the world stop the story preaching or patronising. Malcolm is an engaging character I had no trouble committing to from the beginning and the different places and characters along his path are well drawn and completely engaging. A good read.
