Efterklang make music for the inspired. But don’t feel left out, for Efterklang inspire all. Otherworldly pop songs, both magnificently ambitious and engagingly intimate. Breathtaking panoramas of sound with few clear antecedents. ... Read more in Amazon's Efterklang Store

I picked this album up after having heard a few Efterklang songs. I didnt really know what to expect but I have to say, it struck me as an incredible album straight off. It's original and different to anything you'll hear elsewhere, with violin, piano, brass and a chorus of voices working together in such a moving way. Quite a swashbuckling adventure of an album thats bursting with colour, fantasy and personality. Uplifting at times, quiet and peaceful at others. I cant recommend it enough- I'm obsessed! If you like your music with a slice of fantasy and at times, gently poignant I say give this a go.

On a side note, I also really recommend seeing Efterklang live if you get the oppurtunity- an experience not to be missed :)

Danish ensemble Efterklang created quite a buzz earlier this year, issuing the superb "Under Giant Trees" Ep. Intended as a stop-gap release, to whet the appetite for their second album "Parades, tracks such as "Jojo" and "Himmelbjerget" pointed to a band on the cusp of greatness. To release such music, while recording material for an album, is no mean feat and displays an unconceited confidence in the strength of their recording capabilities. Simply put, few bands can afford to discard such wonderful music onto limited-edition releases.

But Efterklang are not just any band, choosing not to do things by half, it seems they have poured every creative ounce of energy into "Parades". Some eighteen months has been spent on this record and it is structured like an elaborate, never-ending maze. Employing no fewer than thirty musicians to augment this already sprawling collective, such attention to detail makes Arcade Fire's "Neon Bible" look like a solo record.

There is a sense of theatre to this releases, it is choc full of cinematic crashes, lavish crescendos and grand arrangements. It certainly parallels the enigmatic nature of debut album "Tripper", but this record's vision imposes its majesty on the listener from the outset.

There is direct focus on vocal arrangements, with male and female harmonies colliding with luxuriant orchestration and subtle electronics. "Caravan" is most noticeable for this; with the female arrangement sounding like one hundred Björk's singing in unison from atop a mountain. "Him Poe Poe" also excels in the vocal department, delicately balancing male whispers around swelling violin and cascading harmonies.

Did nothing for me and went on far too long.
Audition carefully if you really think you should buy this on the strength of some happy clappy reviews.
Quite awful.
Don't waste your time.

Charming packaging. Lush sounds too. No-one can deny the effort and endeavor on show here but it's all a bit dull. A curio that will end up at the dusty end of your music collection. Avoid.

Great Album! 14 Mar. 2008

This truly is an incredible album. 'Parades' is a beautiful mix of electronic and traditional European folk that is simply stunning. Ranging from subtle and delicate to beat-laden and synth-heavy, Efterklang does a great job keeping their offering diverse and engaging.

Efterklang - Parades 5 May 2011
By scoundrel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Symphonic post-rock, with carefully orchestrated vocals -- Efterklang's _Parades_ swells forth on a tsunami of sound. "Polygene," for example, has a cinematic scope to it, with layered vocals that build to a chorus. The military snare that rattles in "Mirador" get subsumed under a lovely haze of strings and horns. The chant on "Him Poe Poe" lends a fairy tale-like quality to its short running time; the same goes for the simple piano of "Mimeo." On many tracks, the voices of children add an angelic texture, a counterpoint to the more mature voices. "Blowing Lungs Like Bubbles," however, goes for a accordion-assisted dirge. And "Caravan" has the sharp and precise rhythms of a rock song. On the final track, "Cutting Ice to Snow," they take the languorous out, content to let guitars strum over a tinkling piano and a buzzing accordion before the vocals explode onto the scene. A surprisingly accomplished album.
such a great band 2 Oct. 2013

These guys really have their own sound. There are so many genres and elements that make up the beauty that is Efterklang... prog, opera, electronica, post-rock... I stumbled upon them with Tripper and have continued to buy and love their stuff so much.
It's difficult to even think of another band that does what they do.
Brilliantly orchestrated and performed 9 Sept. 2014

A completely underrated piece of post-rocky chamberpop. The songs are sung by a multitude and flow in and out of moods at a whim. Brilliantly orchestrated and performed.
