It's calling your name....,
By Tara Chuck (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Parade (Audio CD)
I was probably about 11 when I first bought this album from Macro. That was when there were Macros in the UK and when ha'penny sweets still cost a ha'penny. I was a Duranie. Through and through. To buy a Spandau Ballet album was unthinkable - and yet there I was, doing the unspeakable, because I'd fallen in love with the song Round and Round.18 years later, I'm still a Duranie. I never lost the faith in those guys. However, I don't listen to much of their music from the 80s. That's where Spandau Ballet are different, and in many ways superior. This album is one I know I'll be listening to for the rest of my life. It isn't just the hits that make this album so great - sure you get Only When You Leave (Live Aid classic), you get Highly Strung (famed for the lines "she used to be a diplomat, but now she's down the laundromat"), you get I'll Fly For You (more lyrical genius "and when you sing to me, the shoobie doos you sing so well") and you get Round and Round... but you get some classic album tracks into the bargain, each of which is worthy of being a hit in it's own right. Nature of the Beast is one of my all time favourite songs, and the other songs are all killers too. If you're catching up on the 80s, this album can't be missed.

A work of art,
By
This review is from: Parade (Audio CD)
This album is probably the best of Spandau Ballet, shortly followed by Through the Barricades and True.
And iI say the best because all songs are memorable, the band was in the peak of success in 1984 when this album was released, their fashion design was a trend, and so were their videos and their particular musical style. And being what Spandau were then, they made us dream and love music like never before. Although Through the Barricades in 1986 was a great improvement musically speaking, Parade is a praiseworthy work of art, specially after the mega-hit of their lives, True (not their best song though). Bear in mind that they released almost 1 album per year, and from the very beginning until 1986 it was a constant raise to success, this is a real quality sign. I just recommend everybody to listen to this album carefully, you will fall in love with it easily. I must admit that this album marked a great part of my life.

Excellent album where all the songs are memorable,
By A Customer
This review is from: Parade (Audio CD)
Basically, this is one of the earlier albums of Spandau and packed with memorable songs even though not all of them were released. With hits like Highly Strung, Round and Round, Only When You Leave mixed with the other excellent songs such as Nature of the Beast. My favourite here is the wonderful mix of "I'll Fly for You". A definite recommendation for any Spandau fan or those who want to hear more of their early stuff.
