Jackie Morris lives in Pembrokeshire, Wales, with children, dogs and cats. Ever since leaving college, Bath Academy of Art, at least one cat has watched over her while she works. Big cats and small are a passion in her life, and it was while reading and watching her cat Pixie sleeping in winter that the idea for I am Cat came about. Among her many books for Frances Lincoln are The Ice Bear, The Snow Leopard, Tell me a Dragon, and How the Whale Became by Ted Hughes.

Superb!!! 14 May 2004
Format:Hardcover
I have mainly bought this book for use at school to help deliver the QCA unit for 'Stories that Jesus told - why did he tell them?', in a KS1 class. I am over the moon with it! The pictures are stunning. There is a introductory passage to help 'set' the parable and a concluding passage to help focus in on the reason Jesus told the story, e.g. forgiveness by the father of the prodigal son - still relevant to issues in the plaground today at any school. Yes I could have found the parables in a Bible BUT what a find for anyone who wants to focus on the parables. We have made a whole-class book of the children's drawings on each parable - the children bring their parents to look at the book at the end of the day. (PS there's a book by the same author on 'Miracles' !!!)- it's also as good.

Parables: Stories Jesus Told 27 Nov 2000
By Jennifer Russo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is a beautifully written and illustrated book. I love reading it to my children, who love to listen to it. I hope Mary Hoffman will write another, as her prose is so well understood by my kids. Just wonderful!

Almost ruined by intrusive commentary 10 Jun 2002
By Michael J. Mazza - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
"Parables: Stories Jesus Told" features text adapted by Mary Hoffman and art by Jackie Morris. This children's book presents several of the classic parables of Jesus of Nazareth. The retold stories include the parables of the good Samaritan, the sower, the prodigal son, the unforgiving servant, and more.

The stories are retold with effective simplicity. Morris' artwork is truly wonderful; her warm, rich tones bring to life the Middle East of Jesus' era. Her human faces are full of emotion, and she is also masterful at illustrating sheep, a wheatfield, flatbreads, and other elements.

The only bad thing about this book are the preachy, hit-you-over-the-head afterwords that follow each retold parable. These stories are some of the world's great literature, and should be allowed to speak for themselves; for a children's book, they only need the accompaniment of great artwork.
