5.0 out of 5 stars A 'must read' for anyone interested in Aboriginal art, 1 Mar 2011
By
Hamish Pringle (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Papunya Tula: Art of the Western Desert (Hardcover)
This is one of the very best art books I've ever read. It tells the true story about the modern iteration of Aboriginal art using Western paints and materials, an innovation by teacher Geoffrey Bardon in 1971 which has resulted in the extraordinary flowering of creativity which is so evocative of Australia. It's the first book on the story and a short read, whereas the subsequent title 'Papunya: A Place Made After the Story - The Beginnings of the Western Desert Painting Movement' is a much more detailed exposition with many more images and explanations of their symbolism. My advice would be to buy this book first and then the more expensive one as I did once captivated.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Art Lovers, 24 Jun 2000
By James Flavin - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Papunya Tula: Art of the Western Desert (Hardcover)
His brother, James, wrote 'Revolution by Night'. Do not go past this book if you want to learn about Aboriginal Art; a book compiled by a bloke who loves the Aboriginal people.
