Review

'Whether you like your paper fine and delicate or as a thick solid base, Lawrence will help you get the best out of your work.' --Classic Stitches

Product Description

Silk paper is an exciting technique that is becoming ever more popular with textile artists. The process consists of taking silk fibres(which are readily available) and felting them together to make sheets of fabric. The result is a strong but delicate fabric which can be either thick and solid or almost transparently thin. This fabric can be used for a wide range of products - from scarves and jewellery to wall hangings and embellishments for skirts and blouses. The process is cheap, easy to do, non-hazardous, doesn't require much space or equipment, and the results can be very beautiful. This is an exciting process which textile artists can add to their repertoire.

treasure trove 10 Dec 2008
By K. Platt TOP 50 REVIEWER
This compact, 128 book is packed full of information on one of the most interesting and versatile aspects of textiles. Learn how to create silk fabric and how to use it. The book explores methods of creating silk paper. This rich fabric is then fully explored in all its uses.

The book includes information on working with silk, including four different methods and techniques. For each technique, a variety of finished projects are shown. The techniques are amply illustrated with photos and instructions are given. However, there are no step by step instructions to make the completed examples of work. You can make books, vessels, wallhangings, scarves and so much more.

Exploring the techniques is like opening a treasure trove. The ideas are fascinating, the finished projects will make you want to try out more than one technique. The photos are very good and the whole book is a colourist's dream. A glossary, suppliers and index are included.

This book offers a fabulous insight into this craft and I know that most crafter swill want to have a go. Well worth buying. Sarah Lawrence is an innovative worker who has explored this craft in detail and willingly shares her knowledge.

need to know 10 Oct 2009
By N. Goff
As a textile artist who has made silk paper before, I still learned some useful new things from this book which is clearly and interestingly laid out. I shall be using this as an information and inspiration source for a while to come! Well worth the price and a delicious treat to read.
