Product Description

CD Description

The new studio album from UK underground legends Paper Monkeys is the new studio album from UK underground legends, Ozric Tentacles. It is the band's follow-up to 2009's The Yum Yum Tree. That album proved that despite being over 25 years into their career the band were still a force to be reckoned with, Classic Rock Prog stating: 'there are enough moments of brilliance here to make this the best thing the band have committed to tape since Jurassic Shift in 1993.' During this long career, the band has flourished through a number of line-up changes, spawned several side projects (including Eat Static and Nodens Ictus), created their own record label (Dovetail & Stretchy), put out close to 25 albums, scored a hit record and sold over a million albums world-wide. One of the most influential bands to emerge from the UK’s festival scene, the Ozrics layer ambient and ethereal landscapes with freeform dub trips, incredible rave grooves and psychedelic progressive rock. It’s an open exploration of music and the soul. www.madfishmusic.com/ozrictentacles

dull and boring 14 Mar 2012
Format:Audio CD
i have been a fan of the ozric family for over 20 yrs now and i prefer the harder edged stuff.... live ethereal cereal. pungent. strangeitude. erpland. become the other. underslunky. curious corn. hidden step. these are all classic albums with a real psych edge. however the latest effort is dull.... too new agey chill out type stuff. hence boring. funnily enuff the real weak link is the synths on this later album too programmed not enuff mad spontaneous swooshing. hawkwind have made the same mistake recently.... psych for middle class people.... still regardless of band personel and bitching if an albums weak then it's weak. cheers

While I can't say I loved every song on previous albums, I certain liked at least 1/2 the album. Usually as is the case with Ozric Tentacles, there is one or two stand out songs that really make the album. That is the problem with Paper Monkeys, there is not 1 good song on the album! I felt the same with the 'Yum Yum Tree'. What is becoming clear is that the Ozrics appear to have lost their magic. Reading through the other reviews, it does all seem to point up to 'The floor is too far away' which was the start of the failed trilogy of Ozric albums. Although I didn't like Spirals much, there were a couple of good songs on it.

Having seen them live twice last year, I also don't think that the current Ozric line up is that good. I remember seeing them 2 nights in a row back in the mid 90s and being blown away by how different they were. The current line up just don't improvise much and everything seems far too rehearsed. I want the 2nd show to sound different and yet the only person who really improvises is the guitarist. That never used to be the case. They also are relying far too much on the old 'hits', yet they don't play those hits anywhere near as good as they used to. Will the magic every return? Time will tell, though I fear not with the current line up.

Why the negativity? 2 Mar 2012
By Gerbil
Format:MP3 Download
I consider myself to be an Ozrics fan and have purchased every CD they have made, icluding all the classics mentioned. I have just bought this one and cannot understand the negativity, it is an excellent album and the Ozrics have again produced sounds that are well ahead of the game in electronic music. It is well produced and grows on you as the others have. I am surprised so many purchasers are living in the past. This is good current music that even a 59 year old [me!] can listen to and be transported. Buy and enjoy!

One of their worst albums
