We bought this for a five year old's birthday. Cost us £11 - What great value! Essentially it's being used as an MP3 player - we download three songs onto it and they can then play them to their hearts content. It's caused a number of fights with the four and two year old, as everyone wanted it, so we bought microphones for them.

It's proved incredibly durable, we've had it 6 months and it still sounds great though the kids have managed to peel off a small corner of the paper.

Word of warning - the batteries don't last that long (though that is probably testament to how often it gets used), and when they run out then it just produces an awful sound. We sent the first one back thinking it was faulty, later realised that they all sound like this when the batteries run down.

Honestly, a kid friendly MP3 player that won't get lost, doesn't need headphones and sounds good for £8 (delivered). What more could you want?

I appreciate that it's actually got some playability as well, and I've tried strumming along, but the kids aren't interested in that yet!!

Update May 2013: A year on and its still going strong. I've used it to download the kids' ballet tunes as well as dance tunes. The sound is still great and everyone wants to use it when they come round to play. The paper did peel a little, but was simply glued back down. I've now purchased rechargeable batteries!

I've just read a great review (from Amazon.com) which explained how you can actually play it as a real guitar, so I'm changing my educational rating to 5 stars!!

We bought this for our 8 year old for christmas. He enjoys his music and has recently started proper guitar lessons. We though this might encourage his interest whilst being fun. We seem to have got it right because he loves it. The best bit is being able to download the free computer app so you can upload other songs to jam with onto the guitar. His favourite is 'Let me entertain you' by Robbie Williams. This feature was well worth the extra for the 'Pro' model. Would recommend!

We purchased this guitar for our 7 year old son for Christmas. He is really into the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and aspires to be a member of the Loaded Diper band from the books! The guitar comes to life with a tune almost immediately when switched on or you can create your own sounds. A read of the instructions clearly tells you how to control the volume and other functions. And the headphone socket is a real bonus!

We haven't downloaded any other tunes yet as he is happy to play with it as it is at the moment. Duracell batteries were put in on Christmas morning and they are still going strong.

It would be better if it came with a shoulder strap as after a few minutes play it did descend to his knees. I managed to obtain a strap from Amazon for four pounds. Overall a good purchase with instant rock-star gratification without having to learn how to play a musical instrument! Apparently, "It's awesome"!

Bought this for my five year old daughter for her birthday, she loved it and started playing away on it in her bedroom. It sounds like the real thing and can learn to play chords and things due to it having sensors on the neck for different notes. I'm not a musical person but it seems to be enough like the real thing to be able to play it like a real one. You have three preloaded tracks that you can play along with and a USB connection to either download your favourite tracks (depending on their length) to freestyle with or you can download ones to play along with from the Paper Jamz site. We haven't tried this yet, so not sure how it will work, but even if it doesn't she loves the songs it does have! Brilliant fun, she now plays guitar while my two year old smashes hell out of his drumkit he got for xmas! Plus it was superb value, would highly recommend for anyone aged 5 and upwards.

First impression- no strings! Will it matter- will it work we ask ourselves? Awesome! Literally you can play any note or chord- sounds ace. Light and easy to carry- no strap but I guess you can fit any old bit of something to hang on it (there are knobs for a strap). It's just an ace toy- I'm a 44yr old chap and got to say I really enjoy it. Takes a few mins to fully understand everything you can do- right now I am loading 3 Queen tunes onto it (I have brainwashed him!!). Stick 4 AA batteries in though and you're working right away. Feels well made- hard plastic mostly- I imagine it'll last a while. Anyway 7yr old loves it- his brothers too. 3 Yr old had it behind his neck jamming within 30 seconds- no idea where little guy got that move!? Frankly I am amazed at the coolness of this toy for the money.

The guitar is lots of fun, but, the volume switch stopped working after the 3rd playing so no adjusting the volume. I guess I could return it but it isn't an issue. The guitar could use an extra karioki mode which would be playing chords over a song, but it only allows straight one note playing of just strumming in rhythm without the possibility of using the chords mode when doing the karioki. Also the possibility to download or change the music on the guitar that you like to play to doesn't really work that well or maybe I just don't understand how it works completely. It seems you have to buy specially treated songs from itunes to download or just load your own music onto the guitar but they don't karioki as well as the specially prepared songs. I have to say the price was right for what the toy is and it is lots of fun.
