Product Description

Product Description

Chess is more than just a game. It is the ultimate test of strategy. It is a game so significant that it once inspired the Vikings and more recently claimed centre stage in the Cold War. Its chequerboard design is iconic, and its evocative pieces have appeared in everything from "Alice in Wonderland" to "Harry Potter". But at heart it remains an engrossing game of mental agility that continues to be passed down from generation to generation and enjoyed by millions. "Paper Chess" celebrates all these elements, while adding a brilliant move of its own. While the first half of the book provides all the rules and strategies you need to master the game, as well as some graphically illustrated cultural context, it is the second half that castles the opposition. It contains step-by-step instructions plus a set of punch-out illustrated templates, everything you need to construct a complete set of elegantly designed chess pieces. Each piece comes complete with a magnetic sticker for its base, and the back cover of the book converts into a magnetic chess board. It is everything you need to create your own collectible paper chess set and learn how to put it to best use; and the perfect way to introduce the next generation to this magnificent game.
