Product Description

Synopsis

This pattern book features step-by-step instructions on fitting and sewing pants for women of all different body types using the twin techniques of tissue- and fabric-fitting. Important sewing choices are highlighted, including choosing fabrics, selecting appropriate alteration tools, and finding styles that are most flattering. The fit-as-you-sew process of making pants is illustrated with progressive photographs of fitting pants for nine women of different size and shapes. Covered are a variety of styles including non-roll and expandable waistbands; centred, lapped, and invisible zippers; faced and contour waistlines; and cargo, double welt, and simple side seam pockets.

Actually, this book should be titled "Pants for people who've got a big bum, no bum, round tum, fat tum, small hips, huge hips, no waist, enormous waist" - in fact if you are NORMAL like the majority of us, then don't even attempt to make a pair of trousers without this book! Having had a break from dress making for around 20 years, I have decided to take it up again - mainly because I can't seem to get anything off the peg to fit my not-so-off-the-peg and nearly 50 figure, so, one saturday afternoon recently I dug out my very dated collection of 80's patterns and was horrified to find that I no longer fit into any of the sizing brackets. Like everyone else with a "maturing figure", my waist, hips and tum are all disproportionate, and this book seemed like it was going to help me get round these problems. It does. It's a lot of work and faffing around, but at the end of the day you have a re-useable perfect fit pattern (which you can preserve by sticking to iron-on interfacing) and can start to feel good about the things you make again. Sadly it's goodbye to "2 hour sewing" but the finished item will look good for years. Get this book - its a good read if nothing else!

"Fit is fun! If you can think in 3-D, you will marvel at your ability to solve fit puzzles. If you sew with this book close by, you will love the clothes you sew, they will flatter your figure because of the fit."
This book is probadly not for the absolute beginner

This book covers everything you need to know about fitting trousers. It's the only book I've found that tells you how to decode the drag lines, wrinkles and sags on ill-fitting trousers, and what to do about them. The real life case studies are a bit dated, and you may also need a general sewing techniques book for the little details; but this book still deserves 5 stars. I just sewed my first pair of trousers using this book and they fit great. Without it, I would have just given up.
